I doubt if there are many consistent threads in the Lounge: I've had one or two of mine totally hijacked. But I suppose you might consider that "Increase your post count here" shows some continuity of purpose.

Lets get back to topic the world is run by one thing.. Money. That's what Bush's War on Terror was all about, it was a masked war against the Euro for domination of world financial markets. With the impending exit from Iraq, this is going to severely damage the USA's standing in the world, coupled with a most likely Democratic President in 2008, there is going to be a major shift in US foreign policy which is going to make many countries around the world think that America's will is weakening. This is all going to impact the dollar as it falls further in value and much of the financial benefits of having a reserve currency go away. Anyway like I said the America Century ended on December 31, 1999.

An interesting trend among the ultra wealthy in America is to teach their young Chinese, many wealthy people are hiring Chinese au pairs to help familiarize their children with Chinese culture. The rich are often good at predicting trends and events. Anyway its looking more and more like an Asian century is coming in a couple of decades.

Police state

Police state means big brother is watching you and controlling what you do, not necessarily the police as we know it. We have CIA, NSA, IRS that does more or less the same. Besides, it is quite obvious that the world is NOT a safe place with one so called 'super power". I miss the cold war years, I miss them.

Europe hasn't gone to war in ages. Especially the French police force, they're ninnies when it comes to controlling their people like the mobs. Plus I'd like to see them try because they might bring up old fears and start Viva la Revolution again if they tried to supress the French people. I don't know if things will change under Sarcose's reign but under Chirac, France could not be controlled. The only warring country is the U.K./ Britain and that's partly because of their alliance with us.

Really?

"That's what Bush's War on Terror was all about, it was a masked war against the Euro for domination of world financial markets. " I think you are using unsupported facts to try to sustain your conclusion.

If oil was really the point of this war as peace-niks like to say, then in maybe 20-30 years time, this will pay dividends. You brought up the Chinese, right now the only thing stopping them is energy.

There is a hidden war for natural resources going on. China is really pushing inwards to places like Iran and Africa to try to grab a foothold. The US and allies are strengthening their hold on various Middle East countries for favorable concessions for these resources.

Who said I was a peacenik?? I am just saying the real reason for all of this had to do with the Euro vs. US Dollar competition. The US Dollar is now losing.

As far as peacenicks are concerned, two thirds of the US population are now against the war in Iraq.

As far as USA's Allies, for the most part the European Union is not going to be an ally for much longer its becoming more clear with their push to build an EU military wing. Especially when the EU Army is formed, NATO is going to be a relic of the past. The UK, Canada, and Australia will remain US allies.

Right now the only thing holding back China is energy, very true. China is depending upon coal for its energy needs but now the country is going nuclear and planning to use nuclear energy to power its economy. Australia, Canada, and South Africa are all becoming China's top sources of Uranium.

The US recently put together an agreement with India to help that country improve its ability to use nuclear energy, the Indians will probably use this as an opportunity to also modernize their nuclear weapons which is not a good development but some are banking that India will be a hedge against China.

I would be particularly interested to know which law it is that signifies that "If a gendarmerie (sic) ever shoots a civilian, they are wrong and breaking the law if the law is still in effect." But I wouldn't want you to overlook the other inaccuracies either.
IDMC : Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre | Countries | Turkey | Killings and attacks by gendarmerie also discourage return (2005): “In addition to security concerns arising from the village guard system, attacks on civilians by the gendarmerie discourage return. Three unlawful killings by security forces in late 2004, underscored the continued potential for lethal state violence against civilians in general, and IDPs in particular."

That is from a human rights organization.

From the gendarmerie site:
"Force military and great public utility, the national gendarmerie puts her competence at the service of the safety of the people and the goods on the whole of the own territory and takes part, at the sides of the armies on the external theatres of operations, with missions of maintenance of peace and restoration of the state of right."

See they're the clean up squad and defense of civilians.

I think I'll go join the gendarmerie, the get to ride horses!!!!!!!!!!!
