The US has lost its dominant economic position, the evidence of this points to the fall of the US Dollar. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson held an emergency meeting with the Chinese government earlier this year. Why? China is the biggest financier of US debt, in case you have not noticed the US national debt, not the government debt, is nearly 10 Trillion plus and growing. When other countries buy US treasuries they help finance our debt, the Euro now threatens this system because countries like China are now buying Euros, Gold, and other instruments of wealth. The US as a whole will still be a well off country but it will never dominate the world economy as it did in the second half of the 20th Century. Like it or not its going to be an Asian century, they have more people combined with rapidly modernizing technology. Europe and the US dominated the world for the last two centuries because of modern technology.

Yeah, thanks to that goober in the White House that YOU support (who gave all his rich buddies nice tax breaks to accomplish the "growing" part).

I never supported Bush, but I have not supported the Democrats, the national debt was being run up for the last 30 years during Democratic and Republican presidencies. Like I said with some prudent new leadership, the US will still be an affluent country but places like China and India will have more global influence because they have more people and will soon have modern technology. China has four times the population of the US, with one fourth the per capita income, their economy will be the same size as the US. In PPP terms they are already almost our size.

The real culprit is not the politicans but ordinary American consumers, go to Walmart or any other store and take a good look at what you buy, chances are it will say Made in China or somewhere else even though its a product of Microsoft or some other US company. Consumers constantly demand cheaper products, investors want bigger profits, so they have to cut costs, they are doing it by outsourcing to cheap labor countries. Outsourcing is really demolishing the industrial base of the US and other Western nations because wealth and knowledge is being sent off to other countries.
