I may be a little slow here, but what is "DFCI"? I am that person who gets identity by state mixed up with irritable bowel syndrome and identity by decent mixed up with irritable bowel disease.

It's worth noting that jobs at a lot of prestigious places don't pay very well.

this is true. its the market. people want to be there so they dont have to pay. is a prblem with boston that wil lead to brain drain. young attendings will still come but seniors are moving out as they wise up and realize they can get tons more elsewhere at excellent places that may not be top 5 or whathave you. its the young that are interested in the prestigue usually. im here because radonc salary is much higher (though still on the low side0 for the field) and its a great group. quality of life in terms of collegiality is one of the most important things to me.

I thought the average neuro made more than what was posted. I know a chiro that went back and did neuro. He was offered $300K plus bonus to come back to town and turned it down. I live in a small town and the only neuro we could get was a chinese guy from Ga. He has been here for 2 years and seems to be making more than $300,000 a year.

Most of the neuro's we had in our town either didn't want to do trauma or kids, or something. They were very picky about the type if practice they wanted.

Neurodiagnostics pay fairly well, so I don't know why they would not make a good living. I send out 10-15 NCVs a month to our guy.. and that is just what I send.. Not including what the other 50 docs in town send. NCVs reimburse around $800-1500 per test and take less than 30 mins. WE used to get paid for them, a few years ago. I was making 8-20K a month on those alone! Now only PMR and Neuros really get paid for them.

Just my two cents..

Yeah, I think those salaries are sometimes a bit low. I agree with the "average" that is posted, but the "highest reported" figures are low. G

Allied Physicians, a physician recruitment firm has a list of doctor incomes, you can check out the stats yourself. Most Neurologists would earn 200K+ after residency. Those in private practice have the ability to earn considerably more. I looked at a few listings, I would bet that the Georgia neurologist makes a lot more than 300K a year, because I saw listings for incomes as high as a half million a year.

Physician Salary Survey, Salaries - Allied Physicians

Regardless, medical specialists and primary care physcians in the United States are the best paid in the world, probably physicians only the UK and Australia have incomes that might be comparable. I remember in Germany there was a scandal involving doctors who billed the German insurance schemes for 1 million EUR a piece, that is about 1.3 million US dollars, in reality most German doctors earn far less than their American counterparts.
