And if you thinks that just by memory and recall you will pass step 1, you are in for a disaster.

MCAT!!!!!
at least everything on step I was relevant to the first 2 years- the MCAT was all over the place!!

I would take step I over(thank God I don't have to!!!), but I told myself if I didn't get into a med school by the time my MCATs expired, that was the end of my quest to get into med school(and thank God I got in!).

I think the reason some people find the mcat to be more challenging than the usmle is because the basic sciences are meant to prepare you for the usmle, but 'pre-med' is not necessarily geared towards mcat preparation. Students do not really encounter exams like the MCAT throughout their undergrad career but exams given in the basic sciences are supposed to mirror usmle's question format. When studying for the MCAT you first have to review the material you learned in pre-med and then apply it in a completely different context than you have done ever before. Im not sure about other schools, but my undergrad science exams were nothing like the mcat and most are not. So in addition to studying for the test, you actually have to learn how to take the test, whereas in medical school you have already been exposed to format and difficulty level of the usmle and have more of an idea on what to expect, whereas the mcat can tend to be more random and as rokshana said, all over the place. So perhaps if pre-med exams were more like the mcat, we'd see more people getting 30's and above, and the mcat wouldn't suddenly be this abrupt bane of existence for people.

Actually, the MCAT questions were a lot easier than my undergrads. I just hate physics and ochem with a passion and felt like crying when they posted electro-magnetism questions.

MCATs suck

I thought the MCAT was extremely difficult!!! I felt VERY poorly prepared by my university and the classes I took (bio major). The class averages in organic chem were in the 50's, therefore there were huge curves and most of us ended up passsing without learning what is required for the MCATs. The same goes with physics..Plus, of course, I had absolutely no interest in that material!! That makes learning it much more difficult...

Now as for Step I... I'll tell you on Thurs (yes in 2 days!!!!!!!) how it goes..
Studying for it sux, that's for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Go straight to Step 3.
