dont be silly
YES!!! Don't be crazy. You will match for either Psy or IM with an 80. My brother-in-law is now a heme-onc fellow, but when he was on the resident selection com for IM, the cut point for IMGs was 80. That was at a very prestigious program. I had a similar step 1 and am going to a university based IM prog in a major tertiary hosp in July. Settle down my friend.
You would be suprised how many AMGs score in the 70's and low 80's. Especially if you do well on step 2, you're going to be fine. Medical college of Georgia had more than 30 students fail step 1 in the 2004-2005 period. Program Directors are not stupid. If you passed, and they know you had to work harder to do it, then they will consider you. There will be many more applicants with a failing score on their transcripts from both US and IMG progs. 80 is not a bad score at all. It puts you in about the middle 1/3rd of all scores... Slightly below the average, but by no means a blight on your future. I know of people who matched IM, IM/Peds, and FP with scores in the 70's on step 1 and 80's on step 2. So long as you're not ultra-selective, do well on your interviews, and have some extra material to fill out your application, I think you will find that things are much better than they seem. Dust yourself off, and start getting ready for the CK. |
