Advice? + Minors really worth it?

Our members don't see this ad.
I'm thinking about minoring in either Math or Anthropology (opposite poles I know...) along with my science program next year. I've heard from some thar minors aren't really a big deal; and from others that it looks good on an application and shows that the student is well rounded (although this probably wouldn't apply if I considered a minor in math since it's still basically a science).

I'm also on the fence about which program to go into, right now I was accepted into two and can only manage to do a minor should I choose a specific program. Here are my choices:

1) Honours Biology (no thesis required -I'm a little scared of doing a thesis)
With this I could manage a minor in either Math or Anthropology, and I may get away with it with only one or two summer courses.

2) Honours Biology WITH Physiology Specialization ( - Would this be a bonus?)
With this a minor would be hard as there are more degree requirements, i.e. courses that I HAVE to take. Plus, there's a thesis required in 4th year.

3) Forget about a minor and get a degree in either Hon. Bio with or without the specialization = with or without the scary thesis.

So I'm wondering if I should do what it takes (ie. take summer courses etc) to get the requirements for the minor or not. Would medical schools look at this, and for this matter would grad. sucools? Is there any sort of edge a minor would give me, if so which would be better, anthropology or math?

Thanks for the advice

None of that matters. What matters are your grades. It doesn't matter if you have 10 minors with a C average. You could be a pottery major with a 4.0 GPA and a good MCAT for all they care.

Do whatever pleases you the most so long as you fulfill the pre-requisites for medical school and get GOOD GRADES.

I think I should mention that I'm doing my undergrad in Canada right now and aren't Canadian med. schools much harder to get into, plus there aren;t a lot in my province so that slims my chances even more.. :S
and I havent volunteered a lot, and have a 3.0 gpa (im still im my first year, will try to incresse this)
A minor still pretty much useless?

Concentrate on doing well in whatever you commit yourself to. DO not commit to something you can't handle just bc it will look good on your application. Yes the grades ARE THE most important factor on your application and weighted upon most heavily by the admissions committee. Yet, having ECs and having a minor (even if it is also in sciences) DOES make a difference in your application.
