med etudiant is on a distinguished road
Any fellow premeds scared about the recent match?

Our members don't see this ad.
Total remaining spots are few and far between. I believe there's a chart on AUA's forum showing only 66 remaining spots, nationwide, for family medicine. It will be 5 years before I match, and I'm just wondering what it will look like then.

I'm very concerned!
Thoughts?

Always important to keep the big picture in mind about the career path.....but you should be concentrating on the here and now....go study!

If I had been worried about such things I would never have gone to med school. Lots of people tried to talk me out of it.....told me all kind of horror stories.....

There is always going to be a demand for doctors. Dont look at the match now, the demand is going to rise.

unfilled spots

I don't know where you got that figure from. If you look at the chart, there were 224 unfilled FM slots. That's almost 10% of the total. Also, you need to take into consideration that a lot of slots aren't even put into the match since there are a good number of pre-matches. I don't know about other schools but I hear SGU does about 30% pre-matches (including me).

So, don't worry about it. Just work hard.

That means that 30% of the students sign residency contracts outside of the match.
