510 points I don't see any reason to do pre-med in the Carib. It will be more expensive and is no better than what you will get anywhere in the US. Pre-med classes are mostly useless except to prepare for the MCAT, which is mostly useless in testing med school-relevant material. There are literally hundreds of schools in the US (maybe thousands?) where you can do all your pre-med requirements that will adequately prepare you for med school. Plus, if you do well in the States, you could have a shot at US med schools. I dunno, maybe you have specific reasons, but in general, I see few, if any, reasons to do this.
i would have to agree with tRmedic21 on this. There is no reason not to do your pre-reqs in the states, if you are already there. Your choice of schools is huge. You can choose a large university or a small college in a tiny town...OPTIONS are always nice to have.
Good luck with your endeavors.
Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.
Very bad idea. US is the best choice.

The only reason to do pre-med down here is if you already have a degree from back home and you simply need a few pre-reqs. If St. George's gave you assurance that you would be admitted to their med school if you perform at a certain level (i.e. get a 3.5 or something), I would give that a long hard look.
If you don't have a degree or have even slightly limited funds, I would stay home and complete my pre-reqs (and degree) at the best school I could afford to get into.
Best of Luck!
Pre-med in the carribean is not going to be any better than pre-med at your local state university. Don't waste the big bucks taking pre-med courses in the carribean. Seriously not worth it.
510 points I belive it is a smart idea to go to SGU for premed. I was in the PA program(physician assistants program) for 1 semester. I have no degree but I have like 60 credits. I have completes 3 years of college and 1 semester. I am FARRR from getting a bachelors. I don't have orgo 1 or 2 and physics. I applied to SGU for the 2nd year of premed. I want to go down there and focus. I want to get into the flow before med school. I will get my bachelors in the 1st year of med school and I will take and equivelant test to the MCATS.
I rather not think about money right now. I definetly don't have money to give out of my pocket but I am taking out loans. Money can't be the issue. I know for a fact that I am better off doing premed in SGU and paying off my loans later. Education comes 1st.
Even my interviewer said that it would take longer for me here(in the US) to get my bachelors. Its better that if your in a situation like mine that your better off going to SGU than staying here(in the US) and there and fooling around at home. Your gonna have nothing else to do than study. They also said that you will already be down there you have a greater chance of getting into the med program cuz your there and into the flow . You will know every teacher and every member of the med program committee. You will be hanging out with them. Whenever you need extra help hey your right there and you can get all your questions answered.
I recommend that anyone in my situation should go to SGU. Yea if your like a couple of classes away to getting your bachelors here in the US then go for it. If not then definetly apply to SGU and go for it. Its stupid to be worrying about MONEY and TIME .. cuz i am not wasting any time.![]()
Just do what you think is best for yourself. If you think staying here at home is gonna be a distraction by ur friends being around, u having to go to family things, then carribean is definetly the BEST.
