Activities

Hi, I was just wondering what would be most beneficial in terms of activities to my medical school application. Currently I am a tutor and I am conducting cervical cancer research in hopes to publish a paper. I am a junior know and plan to apply to medical school after graduation so I need to start to get some hospital experience along with the activities I am currently doing. I was looking into either volunteering for a hospital or being a scribe for one of the ER physicians, which would be most beneficial? A scribe sounds good because I would be in a hospital setting and be able to interact directly and shadow a physician, while volunteering allows more patient interaction but not much physician interaction. Thanks any advice would be great.

My .02's - spend time with MD's and nurses. Your pre-med adviser may be able to fix you up. Get LOR's if possible from them.

No way from pre-med advisors they are horrible and usless at my university. It seems both will provide exposure to both but the scribe will be more towards the MD since youll be tailing him/her while the other is with everyone. any suggestions

Always remember pre-med advisers drew the short straw at the staff meeting. Having been to four universities and had dealing with the pre-med folks at all three this appears to be the case at many schools. Some schools are better if you are in their post bac programs. - My soap box for today sorry!

Always go with quality time with an MD if possible. My .02's Jay - good luck and work hard!

I have found that working with doctor’s/PA’s and nurses provided the best experience and I was able to utilize them for letters of recommendation.
