I too was in your position 11 years ago, I wanted to go into medicine because of the excitement/helping others/prestige/good pay associated with being a doctor. While working in the hospital can be rewarding and enjoyable at times, being $300,000 in debt and spending 7-10 years after college in school, with no guarantee that you will get into residency is very stressful, especially considering that in 10 years time you will want to start settling down, buy a house etc.
I know many people who in retrospect would not have gone to medical school if they had known better.
I would try to volunteer in a hospital and see if you like it. Also consider being a PA.

go to college. shadow in hospitals. Read studentdoctor.net. Come back in 3.5 years and reread your post, then decide.
Good luck!

Just starting out of high school - your best prediction of college success is your high school GPA. To get into medicine you need a good undergrad degree and GPA above 3.6. Get a major where you just happen to take the medical school pre-reqs. If it takes five years or summer school to do this

Your best prep for medical school is to determine why you made poor grades in certain subjects and then get the skills to correct these issues before you walk in the door of college.

Next get the AMCAS handbook of US medical schools. Read this book and then work hard to get the best grades you can get every course you take.

There are many good and valid ways to get into medical school. The number one best way - is to get good grades the first time.

I disagree that your high school gpa correlates to how well you will due in university.

I know a number of people that didn't do so hot in high school yet blew their way into medical school very quickly. I also know a lot of highschool high achievers that ended up burning out around college year 3 and changing career paths, etc., etc.

So the moral is, if you want it bad enough just try your best and you'll get there!

Gee, I guess all those years spent doing educational statistics were wasted. Hearsay evidence always overrides hard statistical data.
