University of Manitoba School of Medicine

I was very interested in their medical school as other options other than U.S. schools if I can't get in which is still a long ways away since I just finished my freshman year and a U.S. student with a 3.475 overall and 3.571 science and was just wondering what was the likely hood of gaining admission their and how to gain landed immigrant status since they only accept canadian citizens and landed immigrants.

Thanks for all and any help

From my Canadian friends - getting in a school there is much harder than a US school. That is why many Canadians go to the US schools and Island schools. Your grades in your next year need to be a bit higher for the US schools. You really want to have a 3.8ish average and prep to have a mid thirties MCAT to insure you a spot in a US school. Maybe some of the students on the boards from Canada can tell you the requirements.

From what I've heard, Canadian medical schools are even more difficult to get into than American medical schools. As james pointed out, you'll want a 3.8 GPA and 30+ MCAT to be really competitive for American med schools. That's what you should shoot for right now. Focus on achieving those goals for now. If you fall short, then begin to think about DO Schools, Caribbean schools etc.

Hey, UofM doesn't accept international students. The only Canadian schools that accept international students off the top of my head are McGill and maybe UBC. Try searching each school's admission requirements to confirm this. Also keep in mind that admission standards will be quite high since you are considered out of province for every school.
