Question Foreign MD, or US NP/PA?

Dear all,

I've been on this forum for quite a few years, but now it's finally come the time for me to graduate from college and actually apply to some of these schools, after determining that I probably won't make it into a US medical school with a 2.75 GPA (Biology major).

I've applied to some community college nursing programs here, of which one has accepted me so far with a guaranteed transfer program into the University of Rochester (NY) Nursing School after taking the four nursing classes in the curricumlum (I've finished the non-nursing courses as an undergrad at SUNY Geneseo). If I take this path, after the U of R, I would apply to nurse practitioner programs. The total time for this would be about 5 years, but I would be able to work part time and continue to take some classes at SUNY Geneseo (since this is all in the same area).

I've also applied to a PA program in NYC, which I haven't heard back from. This is a 2-year route.

Or, I could go to the Caribbean. So far, I've applied to Saba, and they reviewed my application, and are now waiting to make a decision based on my Organic Chemistry II grades , which should be ready in May (if not, most likely in August). I've also filled out forms and prepared application packages for Sint Eustatius, MUA Nevis, and St. Matthews, but right now I'm hesitant on sending those out, because I really don't know what I should do in terms of choice between the three paths mentioned. These programs would take about 3-4 years to finish + residency.

I know I will be able to do much of what I want to do as a PA or NP, but there is still quite a big difference between a PA or NP and a medical doctor.

As crunch time rolls around, the frustration of my inner conflicts are driving me up the wall

Any words of advice from those of you out in ValueMDland?

If it means that much to you to be a doctor, you'll never be satisfied with anything but. You have almost the exact same GPA as me (2.74), but I'm in my sophomore year. You should be able to get into Carribean, but just make sure you can handle med school and boards. If you struggled in undergrad, you'll probably struggle in med school. That said, I wish you the best of luck no matter what you decide.
