Cost of Attending Poznan

Hi,

I am trying to estimate how much I will spend per year if I will go to Poznan.

1)Tuition (18,000?)
2)Dorm or Private 1 bdrm
3)Food
4)Books and Supplies
5)Cell Phone
6)Transportation
7)Clubs /Restaurants
8)Any other fees? if yes please give breakdown..

Also overall are the prices for everything really going up lately? I heard that stuff has become much more expensive in Poland over the past year is that true?

Costs

This is from PUMS website:

Tuition
14, 500 USD
Dorm (depending on the dorm)
1, 050 USD or 1, 300 USD
Dorm deposit 500 USD
Malpractice insurance 220 USD
Meals (self-purchase) 3,300 USD
Books and Equipment (self-purchase) 3,300 USD
Living expenses (self-purchase) 3,900 USD
Transportation to Poznan 1,100 USD

This is an estimate for 2005/06 academic year. Has probably gone up a little since then. The total: $28,120. To the current students: does this look accurate?

meaning? it;s more expensive now?
I am very economical i don;t think i would waste almost 1000 dolars per month (8200 per year) on "food and living expenses". that seems a lot of money to waste is it acurate?

yes its more expensive. first the PLN =.44 USD big difference..

The school is trying to implement a 30% tuition increase starting next year. The official number is 41500 pln = roughly 18k usd.

A studio here in a nice building at bear min. will cost u 1100z. my apartment that i share with my gf cost 2300pln a month, its pretty fancy though.

ah and at the market you will spend prob. 200z a week easy, and if you like band name stuff its way more. I have shopped for groceries to fill my place with food with 500z worth. But if you shop right food is the least of your concerns. its still cheap polish people have to eat and they dont make squat.

Doctors start out at 1400z a month for example.

Worst thing, electronics are 2x as expensive as they are in the states easy. Example, i mac mouse cost about 40 usd when i looked last time it was like the eq of 80 usd here.

travel: warsaw or berlin from poznan 120z or 40 euro respectively.

The Z's keep getting stronger too. When we came here 1 dollar was 3.2 z now less then 2.10z so you do the math.

Cars still come pretty cheap some used car my friends bought was 3000z not so bad. I would get one from germany though.

Getting back to the food part. Roughly...

Between the two of us: we make food here mostly because service sucks balls in poland, and the food we make is tasty!

We spend 150z every 2-3 days. So lets just say 300z a week on groceries. 52 wks = 15600z a year on food. x.44 =about 7000 usd on food a year. wowo thats actually a lot, i am no fat *** either ha.

008/3/10 Anna Mielcarek <amielcar@umed.poznan.pl>:
This is to inform you that starting from the academic year 2008/2009 Poznan University of Medical Sciences increases the school fees for students.
Moreover, the payments will be given to you now in PLN (Polish currency). However, you will still pay your fees in USD. The exact amount to pay in USD will be given to you one month prior to the below payment deadlines after they are converted from PLN into USD (according to the binding exchange rate). This financial information will be sent to you by official letter and by e-mail from the bursary office.

Your tuition fee for the academic year 2008/2009 is: 41 340 PLN
1st installment (half of the fee) is payable by September 30, 2008.
2nd installment (the other half of the fee) is payable by February 15, 2009.

If you are staying in the dorm the fees for 2008/2009 academic year are as follows (depending on the dormitory and type of the room):
Medyk, Aspirynka – single room: 7 800 PLN
Medyk, Aspirynka – double room: 3 900 PLN
Eskulap, Wawrzynek – single room: 6 300 PLN
Eskulap, Wawrzynek – double room: 3 150 PLN
The dormitory fee is payable in one installment (whole amount) by September 30, 2008.

Students who do not pay on time will be removed from the list of students and will not be allowed to attend classes.
MOREOVER, ANY DELAY IN PAYMENTS CARRIES STATUTORY PENAL INTEREST CALCULATED DAILY FROM THE DATE DUE.

Attention! DO NOT PAY YOUR FEES IN PLN, YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOUR FINANCIAL INFORMATION WITH PAYMENTS IN USD TO PAY YOUR FEES.

You are also obliged to come to the Dean's Office by June 30, 2008 to sign a statement that you became acquainted with the University new financial policy. Be aware that if you fail to do so, you will be crossed out of the students list.

Thanks for the info chexpool. Guess its a good thing you're almost done!

That totally sucks! I think I read somewhere on the website that tuition can only go up 5% a year?

Hi Chexpool,

On this website under the PUMS link, they show a tuition per year of 14,500. I know you said that figure is going up this year, but what caught my eye is that they show that the cost for the clinical years is 14,500 per semester. Is this a typo or are years 3 and 4 twice as much as years 1 and 2?

Thanks!
