Well it goes like this, 6 yrs, well they are just stuffing, as in the stuffing of a chicken. They kick out a bunch of them because american kids out of hight school have no idea. So i think last year they lost something like 20% but dont quote me.
4 yrs. Well the official policy is that you fail 3 times in anyclass and you get kicked out. But they want your money. So no one fails in the first year at PUMS, instead they give retakes into year two... Problem is, things get serious... very serious... and patho is the filter.... You dont pass each exam, you dont pass the class. you dont pass the year. But since the first year rule is gone. they just put you back a year. Ofcourse if you still suck *** following that mess and still want to stay. They will plop you into the 6yr program or dentistry or something. In the end we have a student number and they are all the same student$$$$$ they say by the end each class loses about 20 people or so. We have lost maybe 4 i think and only 1 of them was due to academics. However this year it looks like maybe another 10 will get the boot. Mabye not it all depends on the patho prof. |

Poznan and NBME and STEP 1, etc.. Exams
For all you current and former Poznan students, whats your feeling about NBME and Step 1 exams.. do you feel school really prepares you for those exams? PUMS prepares students for NOTHING. Prepare to prepare yourself or don't go. But, sure stick they'll let you stick around and keep repeating classes and test until you pass, if that's what your looking for. Be prepared to bring lots of $$$'s as tuition rises on a whim, and they celebrate the dropping dollar. Administration has even bragged that soon it will be 1/1 dollar/z's Really the English program is just a filler and they would love to boot it and make it an all Polish program. |

Academically the Polish school are the same. However, JAG: "Most of the faculty members have practiced in the US or Canada. The School draws also from its former experience while cooperating with the Stony Brook State University of New York." and therefore their is less of a language barrier. It also takes fewer students, restricts where the students originate; hence more selective. The city is known for being friendlier to foreigners than either Warsaw or Poznan.
For those considering the 6 year program -- don't overlook Gdansk it is a well-respected school and the program has made great strides. Also, for those looking for a 3 year program consider this from Silesia: Katowice -- Candidates who graduated from or attended pre-medical or paramedical college before can apply for transfer to third year of the 6-year program (4-year medical program in English). There are a lot of possibilties in Poland for foreign students intent upon become licensed MD's -- but the programs are all new and will only be a success if standards are enforced. Unfortunately in Poland it often means the students have to ask their university to live up to the standards they set and promised -- and live with the fact they quite often they won't step up to the plate. For whatever reason -- I'm sure it's been explained to them over and over, they fail to grasp the concept of creating a good name for themselves even though if they opened their eyes it is obvious that is why JAG started ahead of the pack -- it's previous reputation -- and remains ahead of the pack -- selectivity of students and living up to the standards they set for the program. Poznan is a chicken running around with it's head cut off, not sure where it's going, unable to stick to their plan, and running after any plan that smells like more money, missing the golden egg it's sitting on, to the deteriment of those that put their bet on them. |
