Does north america discrimate weather it;s a 4 or 6 year program???

I would like ot know if it matters whether it is a 4 or 6 year program you take abroad. If you plan to do your residency in north america do they only want 4 year program or 6 year program is also fine...?

We have a number of physicians on staff at the medical center where I work who completed 6-year programs... that is the European standard. I am certainly not aware of any bias for or against either option. It appears to me that the main determining factors for matching in a US residency will be 1) your USMLE scores, and 2) whether or not you have the requisite social and ancillary skills to present yourself well in an interview and on paper.

One of the hospitalists here attended medical school at Univerzita Komenskeho in Slovakia (she's from there, originally), and did her residency in Pennsylvania someplace.

One of the surgeons went to University of Sind in Pakistan, residency in Massachusetts. (Within that region, there's a pathologist from a Pakistani school, as well, and a sleep specialist who studied in India.)

One of the psychiatrists went to Medical Academy of Gdansk in Poland, residency in NY.

Germany is also well-represented. One of the geriatricians went to Karl-Eberhardts-Universitaet, and one of the internists went to Universitaet Bonn.

Those are the ones I know of, anyway. Hope that helps.
