Poland is not the USA, but I think 3rd world might be a little strong. Judging from your posts, I think you might consider somewhere else for medical school.

I just wanted to clarify my post. I was talking to few people about Poland and was told that Poland is not like uk, germany, etc.. but rather more like former soviet union... now what that meant is that theris no law and order like in western europe and corruption is rampant if thats not true fine let me know, I can only speak from what I heard from other people... so dont take it personally.. The reason I came to this forum is exactly because I am looking for advice...

Your best bet is to visit any place you are considering going to, and not base your choice on an internet forum.

Having been to the "Third World" a time or three with the military (and in other capacities), I can vouch for the fact that Poland ain't it. I mean, HONESTLY...

Maybe I can help here... I'm a girl and I've been living in an apartment in Poland all alone for the past almost 2 years. I've never lived alone before, so I was little bit afraid at the beginning (esp. being a girl and not knowing the city)... However, I've never (knock knock knock) experienced any problems here and I've never heard of any from my classmates. And let me add one thing - there were plenty of times that I came back home late at night! And honestly, after being here for almost 2 years, I can tell you that I have no problems coming home alone in the middle of the night, while I would never walk the streets alone at night in US! As long as you play safe and don't mess with the wrong crowd (often you can tell right away who they are), you should be fine! Of course, there is no 100% guarantee, because as some of us mentioned before - bad things can happen anywhere. Hope it helps
