I am considering applying to PUMS for medical school. Can anyone comment on their experiences at this school?

its so so, it gets the job done when you work. Otherwise whatever i guess, after 2 years here, i wish i didnt come to poland. But having said that everyone minus 2 people i know passed there steps, so whatever. Its all about mind set.

Im at PUMS if your making a choice goto krakow. dont take my word for it, first goto poznan to check it out then goto krakow just to get the impression. Good luck

Can you tell me your pros and cons of both cities? I am more interested in Poznan because it is cheaper. Also, as long as I can learn medicine, I don't care where I am, as long as I am comfortable.

Thanks!

hmm pros in poznan, close to berlin... thats about it.
Poznan is know by polish people to be the rudest of all cities of poland, and this is sometimes amplified to foriegners, however seems like the dark skin guys have quite a nice time with polish chicks

The city has a nice old town area where the clubs are and such, but the school is scattered all over the place, year 1 and 2 your pretty much in the same spots though.

The school has its pros and cons, most of all the pathophysio/ physio department is terrible in my opinion. Wastes alot of time and teaches little. When i told them they need to have weekly quizes, 4 exams with 120 questions, and midterm and final, on top of the NBME. with a 70% passing. The director told me that they would not have time for lunch or there families. *** right?

Hmm.. krakow, well refer to the students in krakow to tell you about the school i guess, they will know much better then my limited exposure there.
Best city in poland for tourist and poles alike.
Best service in poland in my opinion, and customer service is not a "given" concept. Actually there is no actual word for it in polish if that gives you any idea.

My conclusion. If your young do and dont cut it straight out of undergrad for and MD program, do an MS program in Basic Medical Science in a Medical school in the states. Then consider FMG.

With poland, Poznan= industrial pooh pooh hole with the occasional nice things, Krakow = Romantic Gothic city that people will be jealous of.

Good luck to you!

I yes: forgot the CHEAPER part. does that include our 30% tuition increase this year i doubt it. For next year the want us to pay 41000pln at a .44 conversion from the dollar. you get = 18000 USD

Krakow 12200 euro at 1.45 = 17690usd
so whatever. its the same i guess.

Think about travel expense; krakow has more flights to it the warsaw, in poznan you will spend 40 euros to get to berlin or warsaw to travel.

ok well once again good luck. VISIT YOUR SCHOOL!

I'll add the pathology dept head can be a pain, but the instructors are great.

Anatomy Department is also a mess in my opinion. I stay at home and read my book instead of going to lecture. I learn more that way......

Yeah I did that for almost all the lectures. Passed both steps no problem.

Hi, I'll be attending PUMS this fall 08' and I was just wondering what you mean by "messy" when you refer to the anatomy departments? and what makes the lectures so bad that people skip them?
Thanks !

Some of the lectures are really, really boring. Studied more on my own for the USMLE steps. It's all in what works for you. I didn't go to lecture much in undergrad either.

I don't go to any lectures, unless its the first lecture to find out what is going on. They are boring and u can learn a lot more by yourself. U can sometimes get photos of the slides, handouts or slide photos. Its just more of a reference in my opinion.
