Well,I bet you say so because you're not studying in the best schools ;-)
I think there is a bit of truth in this rankings. On the other hand some schools "profit" on some old news. Let's take for instance PUMS Poznan - at their website they boast that it was voted the best med school in Poland... And it isn't anymore. It's forth. Now first 3 places go to Jagiellonian Krakow, AM Warszawa and PAM in Szczecin. Last edited by studentka; 04-19-2007 at 11:17 AM. |

I'll try to translate to you a part of this newspaper article:
They based this rankings of the universities on four main factors: the prestige, the scientific power, the conditions of studying and the international contacts of the university. Also which university was chosen by the laureates of the national scientific contests, how much a school is recognised in the business environment, how many scientific degrees the university gave in the recent year, how well qualified is the academic body, and whether the professors find time for their students. It was important also how big are the library collections, and if the students and teachers have the chance to work or study in the foreign institutions and contact with the experts from other countries. |

In the real world these rankings do not mean a thing. I recently met a neurosurgeon who studied at Wroclaw (rankded 8th), now he is one of the best specialists in the world.I know that this is a good school. These days he works in Chicago. He did his residency at UCLA. It is all up to a student not school.

I agree with pisklaki. I've heard that Polish medical universities are more or less on the same level. I also know that many graduates from my university work in very different countries all over the world, some are also among best specialists. It all depends on the students.
BTW PAM Szczecin is high in this ranking - 3rd place

The rankings are more or less worthless when it comes to taking your diploma to N.America. They are nevertheless important if you stay in Poland, and perhaps the EU. First of all, they apply to the polish language programs. Second of all, most residency coordinators don't know Poznan from Wroclaw from Timbuktu. Still, once in a while you do get someone who is in the know, and they'll know the diff. The same can be said about rankings of US med schools. Harvard and Yale have a reputation based solely on their name. They may also be ranked highly but a lot of it is worthless just the same. As far as students/grads are concerned, everyone pretty much gets the same education here too. You might be exposed to some rare cases at the larger university centers, that's true, but come on, how often will you see those rare cases in you future practice anyways. And then there is the whole issue of grade inflation at these places... The more "prestigious" the school, the more "ballooned" the grades. I could go on an on about that one... It's all marketing and hype. Puh-leeze.
