The young people around where I live (southeast Arkansas) always seem to, when they speculate about their futures, imagine no other geographic area, but right here. It's always something like, "I'm gonna graduate from here, and then I'm gonna go to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and do my residency in family practice and come back to practice." Or it's (in the case of the psychology people--the other group I deal with a lot), "I'm gonna get my master's degree in counseling psychology at _____, and then I'm gonna come back here and work at ______ agency." In doing so they limit waaaaay too many things.
They don't even allow for the possiblity that there could be some other, better way or place.

Does it occur to anyone when you see someone talking about, "______ med school in ______, Poland isn't California-approved" that California might not be the best you can do?
Have you considered that in California physicians make less money in real terms than almost anywhere else in the United States? This is economic FACT. Only New York has higher taxes than California, and it's only marginally higher.

Have you thought about the fact that California's medical establishment is the most heavily regulated state in the union? California has malpractice limits...but they're in the hundreds of millions of dollars. And that makes liability coverage rate through the roof!

It's great that the people on here from California love it there. It's great the you want to be near your families, and blah, blah, blah. But does it occur that there might be some place that you like and can live that you can real THRIVE in? And that you might be unfairly limiting yourself because you don't really have any experience with anywhere else?
What makes everyone think that there will never be a California-approved Polish medical school?

What's everyone so scared of?

Of course, I guess I get to pontificate and bloviate because my state doesn't limit me in this way. But if they did, I'd just go live somewhere else. I want to be a physician that much.

You are mistaken. As a graduate of the English program in Lublin, you are currently not allowed in California or any other place that follows the California list (e.g. New Mexico).

See Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California the section under Warning.

It's up to date. Don't have to buy the latest edition. But it's up to you. Before you go buying all your books, keep in mind that there is a copy place where some dude will give you a copy of books for I think half the price.

If I were you, I'd bring histology and the small moore anatomy book with you. The rest, I'd order online from amazon in the uk when you get here. Good Luck!

I talked to a person in NY Office. Yearly fee for a spot in the dormitory (double room) will be $1300. Is this true? People currently at PUMS please let me know. I feel like NY tells one thing and once you get there its another story. Also anyone currently living in a double? how is that? I've heard that beds are short, I am kind of tall so I wonder if I will even fit into that bed. also how do you guys do your laundry, are there dryers there? How much closet space. and one more thing. Can I store a bicycle somewhere on the dormitory premises. gracias

Yes, it is true that you will pay 1300 $ for a year. It was 2600 for a single room. But you pay 1300 for a double....everything else I don't know...

Anyone knows the drop-out rates at these med schools?
I've heard that it's easy to get in, but most people burned out after the 1st year..
I'm also interested in the number of alumni who have passed the board exams(ie. percentage), anyone?

I don't think the drop-out rate is a big deal. Most of the people that dropped out should have never came here.

Not sure on the pass rate for the USMLE. I passed and all my friends did also, that's all that matters to me.

Oh and as I already posted the California application was mailed on April 5, per the Dean's office.

Thank you Narcan!

I'll be visiting Poznan in early May and I'm just wondering if you have any suggestions for the transportation?
for example, should I take train( or flight) from Wroclaw?
if so, wut't the name of the stop at Poznan?

Thank you very much

Hello, Not sure on the plane. But the train stop is Poznan Glowny or main station. Contact ASG via email, they might be able to offer someone to show you around.

Hi,
I have some questions about the interview.

1.I just sent out my application(without health certificate and references-they r not completed yet) and I'm wondering how long it'll take before they decide to offer me an interview?
2. How long is it and when will I know the result of the interview?
3. what kinda Qs did they usually ask?

Thanks a lot
