Thread: Cell phone in Poland

Hi guys, I have a quick question about Cell phones. I've lived overseas and i know the hassles of having a cell phone in a different language. Can you buy English cell phones in Poznan, or is it possible to bring my home cell phone to Poland and get it unlocked and get the sim card and in Poznan?

I use a unlocked Treo 600 from the US with no problem. You need a "world" type phone. I don't know much about it. But you can find people here that unlock phones.

Yes, you need a phone that can use the frequency band used in Poland and most of Europe. Check your phone details and/or ask your phone company if you can use it there.

How about service? Do you have to buy pre-paid? Can you open up service if your an EU citizen from outside of Poland?

hey guys, well i can tell you from experience that tmobile phones work just great in poland. It may cost you more but if you have a sim card, which tmobile does- then it works all over. But ofcourse there are larger fee's for roaming.

ERA is owned 49% by tmobile it actually has the same weblayout as tmobile, if that tells you anything, pretty good prices though i have yet to subscribe through them.

I would think that it won't be long till ERA is taken over by tmobile. But that is just a guess.

Make sure its a GSM phone, all the new ones have there right bandwidth. Just request an unlock phone code, and it will work with sim cards that you can buy by the minute.

That what I want to avoid. I don't want to spend an arm + leg for cell service. Does anyone know about subscribing to a company in Poland? I've heard that US citizens cannot do it, but what about other EU citizens?

I use Orange. Works well. I think the SIM card was 25 zloty. I pay by the minute. People SMS here, don't really talk much.
