Question HMI Program in Poland

(1) Anyone currently in the HMI program in Poland and have any experience with it directly. I am thinking about the program, with two years in poland and two in the U.S. How are the polish schools associated with the program?

(2) Does anyone know if Ponzan or Jag will allow two years of rotations in the states?

Thanks,
Zearnold

I believe Jag only allows half of the rotations to be done in the US, while Poznan allows electives. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I would not characterize HMI as a 'program'.

HMI is merely an agency, that takes commissions at both ends.

This would be a bad idea even if it was allowed, which it is not. You cannot just leave after 2 years and spend the next 2 years in another country and then get the degree. Even if you did this you would have problems with the 12-week rule.

Jag has just changed the rotations/electives/clerkships program to allow the core rotations to be done in 3rd year (like US schools) and then 4th year is open to doing an elective or two abroad. Also, it is not against the rules or guidelines to do rotations/clerkships abroad in the 3rd year as well, but this must be entirely setup and paid for without the school's assistance.

Best thing to do, from what I've been told, is to have at least 1 rotation in your desired specialisation at a US (or your preferred country) hospital so that you can make up for any clinical shortcomings/differences, make contacts, impress them, and get a letter or two.

2 years of "rotations" in the states doesn't even make sense to me.

As for your first question about HMI, I think this and most agencies are designed to profit from students who are not educated enough to avoid/circumvent them. There's about 23434 posts about HMI on these forums and not one of them that I recall is positive.

If you want to do 2 years of rotations in the states then simply enroll in a US med school

I'm not sure that I entirely agree with you.

SGU/Ross/AUC/Saba are able to take advantage of US clinicals. Of course, before US clinicals, all of them teach clinical skills in a fifth semester and require students to pass Step 1. (In addition, they seem to do a pretty good job preparing their students for the USMLEs.)

If a European program were to execute this strategy properly (along with getting state approvals), I think that it would be very competitive.

Do students from these carib schools do their entire 2 years of clinicals at US med schools? I know they have good programs to basically guarantee the students US rotations but I didn't know that they were allowing the students to just leave after year 2 and spend the remaining 2 years in a US med school. What is it I'm missing here?

Yep...that is exactly how it works.
You spend 5 semesters on the island and then you leave for your clinicals....ofcourse if you pass your boards.
You only come back for few days for graduation.
But i preafer Poland anyways

Not at US med schools, at US hospitals with accredited residency programs. Not always in the same location, so you'll find students that do one or two rotations in one state, another in another state, and electives in a completely different location.

However, there is a caveat. At one or more of the above schools, students may also do a year in England or Ireland before doing US rotations.
