The ignorance is unbelievable
It's really amazing to me how ignorant some people are who post here. Some of you are literally talking out of the orifice between your legs...YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!! I can verify for a fact that the podiatry students at my medical school (midwestern university in arizona) take EXACTLY the same basic science curriculum as we do as DOs (I'm talking about the EXACT same courses--we sit side-by-side). The ONLY differences in our curriculums for the first two years is that we have OMM courses and other DO-specific courses and they do their podiatry-specific courses (i.e. surgery, anesthesia, biomechanics, etc.). We're talking about a difference of maybe 7 or 8 courses for the entire 2 years that are different. Actually, the podiatry students go during the summer and take courses in surgery and anesthesia and are way ahead of the curve when it comes to those subjects.
I have gotten to know many of the Pod students and I guarantee most of them could be plugged in at any medical school (DO or MD) and be just fine. The difference in training is really during clinical rotations and in residency. New generation podiatrists know way more about the body than we (DOs & MDs) know about the foot. It's comical to see some of you inflated head cases try to make yourselves feel better by trashing on podiatry. They are physicians every bit as much as we are (or will be). Their scope of practice is limited to the foot. That doesn't make them inferior or non-physicians. Get your facts straight before you start running your mouth just to boost your own ego. Believe it or not, some podiatry students CHOSE to go into podiatry over DO or MD or dental school...I know that must rattle your brain, but it's true. Many of them will make a better living as surgical specialists than some of us who are going into family practice or internal medicine. Why do I even give a crap? My soon-to-be wife is a podiatry student and my eyes have been opened WIDE by what I thought before versus what is really true. Just do a little bit of homework before you get too carried away with ridiculous statements.
