Absolute refractory period

i was listening to a review source and the lecturer said that blockage of voltage gated potassium channels slow repolarization and the absolute refractory period is increased.

Is this accurate, i agree that repolarization will be prolonged but i thought the absolute refractory period is due to the inactivation of sodium channels. if this is correct can someone explain why

Hi, I will try and help; Ok you have a rubber band you pull it with both hands to stretch it the force that you are putting on the band is Na, ok when the influx of Na is at its maximum the band reaches its potential and then with the influence of K, the band then reduces in stretch eventually to its original size and you are at refractory period K has overcome Na so you are waiting to go again.......... this refractory period will be for a set time and then you are ready to go again Na overcomes and stretch of the band commences. Do you understand that., if you do then by blocking the initiating factor Na you will be halting the new impulse propogating. ok; do you understand the action potential diagram curve with the 0, 2, 3, 4 stages. look in Crush the Boards its good it will explain exactly what is required at this level. All the best goodluck
