Pharmacy To Medicine
Hi All,
I am a licensed clinical pharmacist in Florida, USA (5 years) with a ** in Pharmacy (UK). I'm now thinking of pursuing medicine, which has always been my passion. I have no clue regarding GPA's etc as all schooling was done in England. Do I apply to US med schools first? or directly to caribbean? I plan to take the MCAT in april 2006. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ice. |

Caribbean schools understand UK scoring system. If you take your MCAT exam in April 2006, you can start at a Caribbean school in August of 2006 or at a US medical school in August 2007.
Rule of thumb: if you get a 25, apply for the Caribbean schools. If you get a 30, and as a pharmacist you should, you have a shot at going to a US school if you make an attempt and are willing to sacrifice a year. If you choose the Caribbean route, apply to AUC, Ross, and St. George's in January or February and write down in your application forms that you are taking the MCAT exam in April. Apply to all the big three because you never know what each school's admissions board is thinking. If you have three acceptances, great. Pick the school when you have the choice. During the application process, the schools will understand and wait for your MCAT scores. As soon as they have them (June), they wil tell you your admission status.
