    pain after tubal ligation

    Advertisements

I'm 44 and had a tubal ligation last month. I'm in excellent health
tobegin with--normal weight (130#/5'6") with no underlying
healthproblems. I had one pregnancy, which I took to full-term 20 years
ago.I was thrilled to get the tubal done.

    The
surgery went without incident and healing was what I expected butafter
about a week, I started to have pain in my back--left sidestarting from
the base of my rib cage to my hip. The pain burns attimes and usually
just feels like a cramping. It sometimes extendsalong the side and
    wraps to the front slightly.

I had pain in the left side of my
abdomen from when I came home fromthe hospital. That got better but
it's still there pretty consistently. The pain starts on the left side
at my pubic bone and followsdiagonally up about 5-7". It's a cramping
    sort of pain; not sharp.

I feel pain in the top part of my left leg---in the groin area. It's not a debilitating pain, but it's there nonetheless.

I also have a lot of gas and have had it since the surgery.

My doctor did an abdominal CT scan which did not show anything unusual.
She's running bloodwork to make sure that there isn't an elevated white blood count.

I don't have a fever, vomiting, or nausea.

    Here are my questions:

    .
Could this be an infected fallopian tube? If so, would that show upon
the CT-Scan? Do you always have a fever or elevated white bloodcount
    with an infected fallopian tube?

. Could this be a problem
related to my bowel? Before the surgery, mydoctor said several times
that bowels sometimes get nicked in surgeryand they usually catch them
but they might not. I had to sign a waiverabout that.

. If this is a bowel-nicking problem, would it show definitively on the CT-Scan or is another test necessary to diagnose that?

    .
If it's a bowel-nicking, would I necessarily have an infection? Inother
words, can a nick be slight/subtle enough to cause symptoms butnot be
    debilitating?

. What else could cause this problem?

. Are my doctors running the right tests?

I know thes are a lot of questions and I appreciate any help you can give me.

    re

I dont think you have an infected falopian tube or bowel . You'd have fever, malaise besides the pain and It would definitely show up in your white blood count and earlier than a month after surgery.
Although your symptoms started only one month ago and after surgery, it may not be related to surgery itself.
Have they considered irritable bowel syndrome? -maybe a diet high in fiber, drink lots of water would improve your symptoms. If this doenst work it could be adhesions - even more so if besides the falopian tube ligation you have had other surgeries before- ....
Anyway this is not a medical diagnosis but only an opinion cauze i havent seen your records or yourself personally so it is not apropiate to just give a diagnosis like that . hope it helps

    Re: re

Thank you so much for that information.

They did an ultrasound last week and it showed a cyst on my ovary and
some fibroids, which they said could cause this pain. As I've
progressed through my period, the left side of my abdomen has gotten a
little less achey/crampy. That's great news. I still have back leg
problems and I think you're right--they could be unrelated to the
surgery. Maybe I pulled something right after the surgery when my neck
was sore from the procedure and I had to contort somewhat to get out of
    bed.

I so appreciate your input on this. I know it's hard to do this without seeing records (or me personally).

I appreciate the time you took to offer your opinon.

    Have a great day.

    I too have similar symptoms

In Jan. of this year I had a TL, from day one I have had pain in my left ovary with an occasional stabbing or pinching sensation. Fever on and off, spotting almost everyday, I have not had a normal menstral cycle. Vomiting, lightheaded and near passing out. The pain radiates into my left upper thigh. While standing there is a buldge in my left lower abdomenal area, when I lay flat I am level on each side. Also while standing, I have the appearance of a women who is 3-4 months pregnant. Never before the TL have I experienced these symptoms. I am 36 yo and have suffered from IBS since I was 17 yo, and I can tell you my symptoms are not that of IBS. My primary care physician has agreed that is not what I am suffering from. In 5 days it will be 3 months and I am not improving. There are days I feel better than others, but the pain lingers on day after day. There have been several trips to the er where blood and urine is drawn and come back fine, so they send me home. Because of the high med malpractice in the area I live, no one wants to see me. Fortunatly my pcp was able to get me an appt with an obgyn in another state. It will be a 2 hour drive for me, but far away from lawsuit worried doctors. In the meantime, is there anything that you can say which could ease my worried mind? The only thing that has eliminated the pain was a shot of demoral during one of my er visits. That was on top of the vicoden I had already taken which didnt help alleviate the pain. If anyone has had the same symptoms could you email me? I happened upon this site while searching for answers and afraid I may not be able to make my way back. My email addy is denise6971@hotmail.com

Red face pain in upper abdomen after tubal ligation surgery

I had tubal ligation surgery done almost 5 years ago. I had this pain for 4 months and I then called my ob/gyn and his nurse told me that its probably nothing not to worry. So I still as of today have this pain in my upper abdomen area it only bothers me if I push on the area. It feels like a burn kind of pain it doesnt make me want to cry but it does bother me I figured after all these years after having it done the pain would no longer exist. Does this sound like I might have been burned while having the surgery and want do I need to do to see what is causing this discomfort? please help
