You know I think YOU are the IDIOT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
by Anon (no login) You people dont understand!!!!!!! If you think for one instance you are going to have these owners build magnificant campuses for you to park your rear ends on, you have lost your minds!!!!This is THE Caribbean. They are NOT governed by anyone but "WHO"<yippee>. If you were such a wonderful applicant in the first place you wouldnt be down here in school anyway. You can tell me all how wonderful your MCAT scores were and how great your grades were, fact remains, you aint in the US in MEDICAL SCHOOL!My point is that I am thankful there was an alternative for me and that was to come down here. I dont care if they teach me out of a thatched roof hut as long as I get my basic sciences, get my clinicals, get the hell outta here and get a residency. If you think man's best friending about these owners is going to change things, you are sadly mistaken. I have more important things to do get my education, bust my ___ and make the grades to get outta here. Knock yourself OUT partner,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Posted on Mar 21, 2000, 3:26 PM from IP address 152.163.201.191 good call by dano (no login) How does the building you sit in during class effect the way that you learn? It doesn't make sense. People learn by STUDYING!!!!! Not by having some brilliant lecturer or some fancy building on their school grounds. Posted on Mar 21, 2000, 5:36 PM from IP address 207.26.205.98 LET THE WAR ON IMG'S AND FMG'S BEGIN. MANY INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE READ THESE POST'S by pgy-2 orthopedic residency (no login) First of all you do get some vacation time in residency and when you are working shifts you do get some time off. You wouldn't know this because I doubt you are actually in residency. And you seem to forget that "MANY" influential people read these posts such as PAT PARKS from the california Medical board, see the next page. She even left her e-mail address. So keep on playing games, your comments will come back to haunt you. I was asked by a friend of mine to comment on this forum and read the trash being hurled around on this forum. Trust me I am not the only one forming a bad opinion of img's and fmg's. I am going to print some of these comments and share them with every influential person I know including my chief attending. Keep cursing and making racist comments, your character is coming to light. Posted on Mar 22, 2000, 11:05 AM from IP address 209.76.20.17 Maybe we can print your comments too, get a life by Doctor Grim (no login) I doubt you are a PGY-2 in ortho. Why would you be so concerned over what the opinions of a few IMGs are? There are just as many racists who are from US schools. Why should any of us care what the opinion of your chief attending is? If you don't like the content of this forum, then leave. You offer nothing constructive. Most of the people I know have good opinions of IMGs, and would not be shallow enough to classify all IMGs as immature and racist. That is prejudice, is it not? The very same thing you are so against. Get a life. G Posted on Mar 22, 2000, 12:17 PM from IP address 209.8.134.61 You are an intelligent guy grim but......... by pgy-2 orthopedic surgery (no login) I am pgy-2 in Orthopedic surgery and if you send me your e-mail address I will send you mine. I have read a couple of your post's and highly respect you as a person and value your comments. I apologize for some unprofessional comments and for stooping to the level of the ignorant few on this forum. I am not into titles or names, as a matter of fact on this very forum I have stated that people from a carpentry or D.O background are way better suited for an ortho residency because it requires carpentry or manipulative skills. A good friend of mine who is an FMG finally, through my help landed a residency at Loma Linda Univ. He was "highly qualified" and I got sick to my stomach when he had to wait 3 years to land a residency there. From that point on I decided to push for IMG and FMG rights and spots in the Loma Linda, Riverside and Barstow area. I have expended a lot of energy doing this. I wanted to "level the playing field" in my little part of the world for IMG's,FMG's and D.O's as far as surgical residencies are concerned. A friend of mine brought my attention to some of the comments made about affirmative action on these posts and I was infuriated. These post's made me realize that I was expending my energy for a bunch of selfish people who wouldn't mind if more allopathic surgical residency spots were available to IMG'S, FMG's and D.O's but would not support the "SAME" leveling of the playing field for rural whites, women and minorities in medicine. My comments were a little emotional and unprofessional and for this I apologize, but I seriously doubt if I can extend myself anymore for a group of people who should know what it's like to work twice as hard, under adverse conditions, be equally as qualified or more qualified and have to face adverse attitudes because you are IMG, FMG or D.O. Maybe you guys like getting residencies only because they were "UNFILLED SLOTS IN AREAS WHERE AMERICAN STUDENTS DID NOT WANT TO PRACTICE" Stop being selfish and and remember the "MAN-KIND" in the word "hu-MAN-ity" Posted on Mar 22, 2000, 2:30 PM from IP address 209.76.20.17 I am worried about you by Doctor Grim (no login) You have responded to your own message. Now you are a white IMG and not an African American orthopod. I find this interesting, although I never really believed in MPD. Your credibility is shot, Don't bother to e-mail me, it won't prove a thing. It is interesting that Researching Guy traced your IP to a high school and I traced it to San Ysidro Middle school. BTW, I am a rural white and AA never did a thing for me or anyone I know. I signed ofr my residency, which begins in July 2000 in April 1999. You do the math. It was hardly a leftover spot. Stop being foolish and remember the "A.SS" in the word "har-A.SS-ment" G Posted on Mar 22, 2000, 6:55 PM from IP address 209.8.134.61 GET THE WHOLE STORY by PGY-2 Orthopedic Residency (no login) First of all I am not white, why would I pretend to be African American. Secondly as I stated in a previous post, "I AM ON VACATION",if any of you really got a residency you would know how much vacation time you are alloted. And thirdly, mama din't raise no fool, I knew you guys would try to trace me and so I used a friends computer. Since you guys are so smart then tell me what the function "PC-ANYWHERE" allows you to do. Posted on Mar 23, 2000, 1:39 PM from IP address 209.66.208.97 PC-Anywhere by Doctor Grim (no login) So you use PC anywhere to hack into the school systems computers?? That must be a little illegal. Used a friends computer...does your friend live in a locker in the high school? You are getting upset and a little to eager to prove your credentials. I could send you a CV That lists the 3 Ph.D.'s I got from Harvard, plus the Nobel prizes I won in both 1980 (when I was 9) and 1997. I find it hard to believe that a pgy-2 ortho is going to stay on this forum and cause trouble. Of course, since I don't believe you are a resident it makes it easier to believe. That is very mature. You have nothing to gain and obviously nothing to offer. If you really knew we would trace you, then why did you respond to your own message?? As for maturity, I post here becasue I have a vested interest in IMG issues and also remember what it was like to know nothing about what I was getting into, and want to pass on some useful information. I would say that is a "mature" reason for being here. You, on the other hand, are here because you have some personal vendetta against IMG becasue of some cursing or some obscure reason like that. Not very mature. Maybe now would be a good time to call all those "important people" you know. Of course, maybe you aren't familiar with one of Grim's Laws: "If a person claims to know a bunch of important people, there can be no important people." I wish you the best of luck in getting into med school after high school. G Posted on Mar 23, 2000, 3:02 PM from IP address 209.8.134.61 This is funny, too by Doctor Grim (no login) I looked at the times of the posts you made.the earliest being about 9:45AM and generally the latest being around 2:30PM. That sort of looks like a high schools schedule to me. Except March 15 where you posted as late as 3:47 PM...I guess you had detention for chewing gum. Keep posting, you are just too funny hehe. G Posted on Mar 23, 2000, 3:14 PM from IP address 209.8.134.61 WHEN WILL YOU USE A MORE "ADULT" TACTIC by PGY-2 Orthopedic Residency (no login) "IF YOU CANNOT ATTACK THE MESSAGE, THEN ATTACK THE MESSANGER" I mean you are looking at what "time" I am leaving my messages????? You want to get rid of me then attack the message. Here is a good nursery rhyme for you "STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES BUT NAMES WILL NEVER HURT ME." Maybe you should consult with a computer professional to understand what "PC ANYWHERE" is and can do. You guys are looking real bad, Grim and the rest of you. by PGY-2 Orthopedic Residency (no login) To answer all your questions, we rotate through "RIVERSIDE COUNTY HOSPITAL" and as I advised you why didn't you look into Loma Linda University. If I am a high school kid you guys are not acting like grown up adults should. Have you really proof read your answers????? I wonder what impression Pat Parks, AMSA, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Thompson and other people will form of you when they look at my question and look at your answers???? As they say "IF YOU CANNOT ATTACK THE MESSAGE, THEN ATTACK THE MESSANGER." Is this your tactic???? I will give you another opportunity to actually answer the question. Now act like adults and set an example for this San Ysidro middle school, Escondido High school, San Diego district office kid. So i guess then you would oppose the not so recent measure that passed in Florida which would allow IMG's and FMG's to surpass any formal training as Physician Assistant's and just take a challenge exam to get licensed. They also print the challenge exam in "SPANISH" for those who are not "PROFICIENT" in english. So a non-english speaking person or an IMG/FMG who could not pass the USMLE exam or TOEFL can take a challenge exam to get a P.A license and still practice medicine. What do you thinkabout that??????? Posted on Mar 24, 2000, 2:12 PM from IP address 209.76.20.17 Untitled by Nutmeg (no login) The legislation that was passed in florida was an attempt by elected govn't officials to pander the the cuban/hispanic vote. It's nothing more than a back door for foreign born and trained hispanic (mostly cuban) doctors, who were too stupid to pass the USMLE, to be able to practice something remotely close to medicine, rather than being blood drawing techs. These island docs will function as PAs, not as practicing MDs. So while I am against it because it is not fare to Americans who went to PA school and passed the appropriate exams, it really doesnt affect doctors. This question has nothing to do with the fact that you have been ranting and raving on this board like a power hungry lunatic. Nobody gives a s**t what you or other 'influential people' think or say. Posted on Mar 24, 2000, 3:20 PM from IP address 156.111.68.154 Finally someone comes forth by PGY-2 Orthopedic Residency (no login) Remember to attack the message. Why did you single out Cubans???? The bill didn't. Why can't anyone agree to the fact that this gives IMG's and FMG's the opportunity to practice medicine. Even if they are supervised by a licensed physician they are still allowed to practice after they failed the licensure exam. Are you telling me that You IMG's and FMG's are against this bill???? Then why don't you let Florida know that??? Or have we really found a case of giving incompetant people a "CHANCE" at practicing medicine when they board scores advise us otherwise??? If you strongly disagree then why is NAPA fighting this???? As I said previously, it is interesting how quiet people become when they get undeserved benefits. To the second commentator, read all the responses before you decide who is ranting and raging. SABA! SABA! by Anonymous (no login) All of the For's below are before the completion of SABA's new building and the new campus MUA. I am not certain of anything after their completion of the expansion. Hopefully, they will maintain everything the ways they are right now. However, you should expect some time for them to adjust to the sudden drastic increase in enrollment--those level of satisfaction of For's below might be effect somewhat at first and hopefully it goes back to today's standards or better. Let's watch and see how SABA & MUA admin will smoothen the transition between the before and after the expansion of the new building and another campus of their (MUA) due to a big increase in number of enrollments. POSITIVE POINTS: 1. 'Cuz they care about their students 2. low attrition rates because small class size and grade on standard curve 3. almost 100% or 100% U.S. clinical rotations placement & shorter waiting period or no waiting at all for clinical rotations (but you have to travel to several states for them) 4. high enough USMLE pass rate for first-time takers (I think around 84%-check with SABA admin and/or www.saba.org for certain) 5. high sucess rate of obtaining residency spot (I think about 90%+-check with SABA admin and/www.saba.org for certain) 6. students are not competing against each other due to standard curve 75% to pass the class (I heard that in rare occasion they do lower the curve down a little if the class performance on a certain test is too poor, but don't count on it too much.) 7. student only repeat the failed class not the whole semester worth of classes including the passing classes 8. low student to faculty ratio (Their website said 5 to 1, but in reality it seems to 6 or 7 to 1 for now; after the new building is complete, I don't know for certain, but I hope it will remain the same.) 9. peaceful island so good place to study 10. friendly environment from top to bottom: administration, professors, students NEGATIVE POINTS: 1. NO CALIFORNIA APPROVAL so SABA students cannot do anything in CA: schooling, training, clinical rotation, residency, or anything at all. They said they will apply for CA approval 6 months prior to completion of their new building and the process takes around 2 years for approval once they apply, including a site visit. Check SABA admin & www.saba.org for the CA approval status; then verify with Pat, CA Med Board for certain. I only believe when I actually saw and verified. (well, this is the same for UNIBE except the big 3 carib med schools, St. Georges, Ross, AUC) 2. no fun places to enjoy and relax due to small island of about 5 square miles, but med students don't have lots of free time for fun anyway 3. students have to travel a lot from one state to another to complete their clinical rotations portion, but the trade off is little wait or no wait period for U.S. clinical rotations 4. not all clinical spots are teaching and/or teaching affliated hospitals (I don't really know the exact number; call SABA admin & verify with the green book for it.) I think SABA probably has more teaching and/or teaching affliated hospitals than UNIBE, but you should do the research and verification for yourself. 5. NO Stafford Loans at the moment. They said they are going to apply soon, but I only believe when I see things 'cuz I do really know the motive and the game of all (?) carib schools and/or foreign med schools aiming at U.S. students. Well, I think UNIBE doesn't have it either. I think only the big 3s have them. RECOMMENDATION(S): If I were in your shoes, I would go to SABA than UNIBE because of the above Positive and Negative Points. But that is just me, my choice. I can only provide you with the facts and let you know what I would do if I were you. It is your life and your future. Do your homework carefully and make the right decision. I hope the above info are informative and helpful for you to make an easier and approriate decision for your choice of medical school. Best of luck! If you need anything else, you can email me at ltlhh1998@yahoo.com. Posted on Apr 15, 2000, 1:47 AM from IP address 209.245.142.81 UNIBE has stafford loans by Anonymous (no login) I agree with all your points, but in defense of UNIBE--they do have stafford loans. In any case, I would choose Saba over UNIBE Posted on Apr 15, 2000, 9:21 AM from IP address 206.64.129.42 CA not likely by Anonymous (no login) I left Saba because they will not likely gain CA approval. They are not accredited. Also, CA require teaching rotation which Saba defines diffrently than CA. In truth, they have very few. They are not student friendly. While I did well there on scored well on Step 1, I doubt the education is the same with all the key faculty being gone. If I could do it again, I would have choosen AUC or SGU.
