When doctors (MDs) went on strike, mortality rates dropped.
In 2000 in Israel when doctors went on strike, the death rate plummeted 40%. In 1973, Israeli doctors went on strike for 4 weeks and deaths fell by 50% in that month. In Los Angeles in 1976, there was an 18% decline in deaths during industrial action by doctors. After the strike ended the death rate returned to usual levels. In Bogota in 1972 doctors withdrew all treatments apart from emergency care. The mortality rate went down 32%. |

this means

this means that US Medical care truly is the best...since our mortality only went down by 18% vs all the others...hehe thsi type of data is crap. how was it collected, if people knew doctors were on strike would they go see their doc for anything other than trauma? also if we assume that less people seek medical care or are actually seen if doctors are on strike and these people die before getting medical care they are ruled as natural causes

don't be so quick to judge or discount
I think it's important to note that this guy in the story was not a licensed naturopathic doctor from an accredited school. He was a quack. So I don't think it is fair to generalize his training to that of all naturopathic doctors (who come from accredited schools and are licensed in their states). That's as logical as blaming some fool who pretends to be an MD, and saying all allopathic medicine is bad. That doesn't make any sense.
Although I plan to start an MD program this year, I thought seriously of attending naturopathic school in the past (went all the way to applying and getting accepted into the program). And I have seen a naturopathic provider on numerous occasions. So I know there are a lot of well-qualified people out there. I realize that most people on this forum are MDs or medical students (in MD/DO programs). I am just suggesting people not be so quick to bad-mouth alternative providers, when perhaps you don't know enough about their field to judge. Yes, there are some people who are questionable (as well as some alternative practices)... but there are some great docs out there too. |
