Its interesting how strict California is with FMGs; yet they are like 1 in 15 states that has allowed NDs to get a license and practise.

sorry but the whole "we treat the whole person" and "fix problems" is absurd.Originally Posted by NaturalMD7

anyway, since this is a medical school forum, ( specifically related to IMG issues ) this needs to me moved to the ralaxing lounge

the problem for you is that I have read up on this subject.
In addition to the claims of ND's being absurd, your claim that my entire knowledge fund on this subject was derived from this forum is equally absurd.
everyday I drive by the SW School of Naturopathic Medicine here in arizona.
it is basically made up of folks who can't get into medical school. but the scope of practice these ND's will have in az allow minor surgery, prescription of meds, etc.
a good MD obviously does the 'natural' things with their patients that work i.e. if you have a cold, drink liquids, etc. But ND's go a step too far in my opinion when they prescribe herbs, etcv. which aren't standardized i.e. you don't know from batch to batch what amount of the active ingredient is in them. Also the arizona ones are doing weird woo woo stuff like chelation (not for heavy metals) homeopathy (love that $20/oz water) and other weird stuff. Some write prescriptions for opiates (one just got arested for writing 187 prescriptionf of a heroin substitute..now there is natural)
Be a real doctor....an MD or DO and do natural medicine if you wish but do it with the knowledge of the body and pharmaceuticals, etc. that MD's get...not a bunch of people playing doctor in white coats at a ND school...economics will eventually drive the ND's out of business anyway...people won't pay for stuff that HMO's won't reimburse for...az skeptic

FLK, why is it a problem for anyone if you decided to do some reading?
I repeat.......PHILOSOPHY. However, I dont agree with what NDs are doing with the philosophy. Thats why I dont care for Naturopathic Medicine.
I am interested in Lifestyle Medicine however. There are certain MDs from Harvard on down that are making great use with this. It is good philosophy to keep people from getting sick in the first place. Pharmaceutical companies dont care for that.

As an internist, my philosophy is to treat the whole person. I think most of us do that. G

Only in California where we would rather elect the terminator as a governor over all these other qualified politicians. Only in California, where we pay Sarah Palin millions of dollar to speak at a state university when we don't have the funds to provide students enough classes to fulfill their degrees. Only in California where ND are license to practice where as majority of the IMG/FMG MD gets the boot.
Now my question is why is California in such a huge debt, we are doing everything right?
