Thread: MUA premed to med 1 2011/2012

Hello,
I am planning on applying to MUA for premed for the year 2011 (not particular about semester). I need really an honest opinion of the chances of premeds at MUA doing well and moving on to MD1 at MUA or at SABA.

I have heavy duty Science background did courses in my undergrad in (Biochem, Orgo, cell bio, mol bio, human cell bio, gen chem etc). And I took these courses at MIT (which is very tough to get grades for undergrad).

Did not get below a C in the courses I mentioned. I got a few B's and C+'s.

Hi, If you have a heavy science background, why would you need to take Pre-med? Look at the application, if you are missing something like physics or calculus, take them at home and be ready to run for Med 1.

Required Coursework for the M.D. Program

The following courses are required for admission to the M.D. program:
General biology or zoology

One academic year.
Inorganic chemistry (with lab)
One academic year.
Organic chemistry (with lab)
One academic year.
English
One academic year.

Other Coursework

A broad general education is important to developing a compassionate and caring approach to medicine. Therefore, MUA encourages students to complete courses in the arts, social sciences, philosophy, literature and the humanities.

Students completing courses such as cell biology, anatomy and physiology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, physics, mathematics, statistics and psychology/interpersonal skills and communication are given preference in admissions.

@ Sharky: My GPA is < 3.0 which is why I am applying to premed. I want to improve on some aspects first before entering med 1 - I want to do well in med program. Also, do you know the success rates of premeds moving on to MD 1 at MUA or SABA?
