In my opinion, if you can get into SGU, go to SGU. They've been around longer, have better clinicals, have major state approvals, such as California, and better name recognition.

One of the few reasons I see MUA as an advantage over SGU is that MUA's tuition is much lower.

u posted in premed section so i assume ur asking for opinion on premed program@ both the places.
I did mine @ mua...but also did my research for premed@ SGU back then in 2006
No loans @ SGU for premed atleast until 06...I don't know if they have them now...VS. Loan programs available for MUA back then and now
Also, SGU premed is 3 yrs but can be advanced placed if Univ. credits are there...Vs. Mua Premed only 8 Months..however 60 credits manadatory which works out to be same as SGU could take you right out from High school.
Also i believe there is a post test (similar to MCAT) which SGU administers before marticulation into their MD program...which till now MUA doesn't really have.

PS - i am not pushing for MUA over SGU...Just comparing basic facts if it came to premed. SGU however, is still considered#1 in caribbean medicine as far as i understand.

Thanks taare. Yes I'm checking out the Pre-Med programs. I havent been a big fan of them, however I just was thinking if I could get into say SGU via the pre-med program than its worth looking into. I have 92 college credits, and I just need to take Physics, and perhaps BioChem and anatomy. I have yet to take the MCAT. I would never be able to get into SGU with my current GPA a 2.6 Thoughts?

quite honestly...GPA could be an issue. If financing is not a problem for u and SGU does accept u into final year (12 months) of premed...I guess, it may not be a bad option.
However, I think you do stand a good chance@ MUA's premed since you do have 92 credits. Its 8 months comparitively and gives you a head start. Do keep in mind, you need a 3.0 GPA min. to marticulate into Med program. I have completed premed program here and i think it adequately is geared towards preparing students well for the med program. Plus, 8 months give you a good head start to getting adjusted on the island...which is subjective coz some ppl really don't need that much time.
I am not aware of any other caribbean school offering premed...I would not recommend Windsor @ this point in time for premed or med.
Good luck and apply to both schools.... I am sure it'll work out for u in the end.

Good luck!!!

I think you can get loans through SGU for pre-med. Best to call and ask. Link to contact info: Contact Us - St. George’s University - Caribbean Medical and Veterinary School

All the best.

just one more thing to consider....
if I was in your situation I would think about the work load of medical school and making sure you are able to handle it. before attending medical school I thought that modivation alone would be enough to get through medical school despite prior poor academic performance. I have now realized that it is a tremendous amount of work and it is necessary to already have excellent study skills which is normally goes with good marks. There is very little options available if you don't do well at a caribbean school.
I don't want to sound negative at all, but just want to suggest that you consider (if you already haven't) what you will do differently considering your existing makers. The premed program from what I have heard (didn't do premed but know people who have) is that is gets progressively difficult over the duration of the term and many don't make it through if they don't have good study skills and motivation.

regarding choosing between MUA and SGU. if money is not an issue I would choose SGU over MUA because of their reputation and that you have more advanced facilities available that may help you learn.
