Premed 1

Hi Ali,

I have recently completed the Premed Program at MUA. I'll be happy to share my thoughts on Premed 1 with you.

Chemistry with Dr. Dube : I loved this class. It was challenging but Dr. Dube teaches very well. Pay attention in class, take notes, read the book and handouts, and try to do problems in the book. The most important thing when taking this class with Dr. Dube is to be able to apply the material you learned. Know how to use formulas but also know why it is used, when it is used, and what happens this way, that way, or another way. Some students were caught off guard with this style of testing. It is a good method though and makes you think more.

Medical Terminology with Dr. Ross : Dr. Ross is very knowledgeable and loves to share his experiences with you. Pay attention. He means well. Always read AND do your assignments before class. Dr. Ross will challenge you in class on the material in depth. However, the exams will be more straightforward and similar to the book. This class was helpful in providing a preview into future lectures for A&P I and II.

A&P I with Dr. Doherty and Dr. Kovelowski : I had Dr. K but he is not teaching A&P I for your semester. Dr. D will be teaching half of it I believe. He is a fun teacher but take him seriously. For Dr. D's portion, I recommend reading the section to be lectured on before class. Pay attention during lecture and take notes. Some things he mentions does not appear on his notes or in the book but will be on the test. When learning the material, be prepared to apply it clinically when taking his exams.

All the teachers are very congenial and approachable. If you have a question about any of the material, just ask them and they will be glad to help you. I love the professors' ability to present the material in different ways so that you can learn better.

I studied the way I recommended in the above paragraphs. Each student has their own method of studying based on their own abilities. Some can study for three hours and be ready and some study thirty minutes before the test and do fine. I personally have to study everyday for hours to feel ready for a test. I'm sure you will find your method. One thing that everyone in Premed 1 agrees on is that there is a lot of spare time. Enjoy it while it lasts! Premed 2 is more time consuming. Good luck and see you in a week.

PM I & II

Hi there,

Yes. Premed 1 is the first semester and Premed 2 is the second semester. After completion of this program, you will advance to Med 1 (first semester) to start the Basic Sciences program.

Class sizes varies each semester. When I was in Premed 1, there were about 12 people and 16 people when I was in Premed 2.

Good Luck.

If you don't mind my asking, how long ago did you do premed? Does anyone know how many are admitted for fall? I think I'm attending, so just curious...

Hi there,
I took Premed I in August 2002 and Premed II in January 2003. I dont know how many are admitted for fall but you could try calling administration and inquiring.

Recognition

Ali,

I assume that you are from Canada? Do you know if MD degree from MUA is recognized in Canada?

Thanks!

hello there,

premed II was a lot more work in my opinion. chemistry II, anatomy and physiology II, and cell biology were all tough but very good preparation for med courses.

if you have any more questions, i'll be happy to try and answer them for you.

best wishes.
