Calling all Canadians!

I have an upcoming interview to MUA, and have been researching madly since I was notified.
Just wondering how many fellow Canucks down there have looked into the implications of coming back to Canada, or even just securing a rotation or two...
I am not opposed to travelling the world with my medical degree, but would love to have the option to return here one day if necessary!
Anyhow, any insights would be valued, and wish me luck!

All I understand is that Ontario will recognize USMLEs. Also as a FP, your chances are greater. Thats all i know as of yet. There are a few people who have made it back but it still seems like an uphill battle from what i have gathered from other posts here and Good luck with your interview

Thanks Taare!

I've done a little more searching around and it doesn't seem completely impossible.

Just do it and you will get back eventually. Canada has to open up their doors slowly or they are going to be screwed big time.

My mom talked to the dean yesterday while at orientation and he explained that while MUA may secure rotations in Canada it is probably in your best interests to do all of them in the states to ENSURE that you are good to go for licensure in the states. Getting yourself into Canadian rotations will only complicate your licensure in the states and cause unnecessary headache. He recommends to do it all in one path (the USA path) to make sure all bases are covered and THEN once you're done figure out what you need to do to go home.

Interview is easy, don't sweat it.

Hey Nismo...

I've looked into it more, and you're right, it seems like Canada will be seriously reconsidering it's IMG policies soon. I'll just bank on doing it all in the states anyway... it doesn't matter where in the world I go as long as they're calling me Dr. and someone needs to see me!
The interview is super soon- I'm not worried, but just anxious to know whether I'll be buying more sweaters this fall or swimsuits, haha!

Thanks!

Hey- I just had my interview for Pre Med 1 starting in Jan. The interview was good, but I don't know which way it's going to go. Hopefully we both go! Are you going for md or pre med? Good luck either way!

Ontario has started allowing U.S. USMLE grads (including the carribean students) who did their clinicals in the States to apply for residency placements in Canada. This will make it much easier to come back to Canada, since your residence will have been done here.

Are you certain about this? Because for quite some time they have welcomed those who have already done their residency to apply for licensing in Ontario- on the basis that they've complete another residency, in Ontario. These spots are also very limited.
If Ontario is now accepting those with just their clinicals completed, that is huge and awesome! Somehow it just seems like too large a jump from the previous situation though.
