ob/gyn in houma la
just finished up my ob/gyn rotation in houma la, went great got to deliver about 20 kids. saw alot of c-sections and some pretty comnplicated deliveries. with regards to the deliveries i did 3 by myself, under supervision of course. the labor and delivery section is great.with regards to gyn, i scrubbed in every morning assisted in routine ops. mostly hys.the hours can be long but its a real good time call was q6 and the other students from the other schools were cool. the town is awesome stuff to do the whole time. whole bunch of fun and we are about a 40 min drive to the big easy. giuve me a shout with questions. im is next.

Some ppl do their cores there only, others do cores and electives and orthers only do a rotation or two there .. depends on what ur lookin for and whether you want to move around and check out other programs... i did my obgyn rotation there.. right after oneeye.. and it was a great experience.. residents from ochsner run the service.. at any given time theres two interns.. two second/third yrs and two in their last yr... or some break up close to that.. they were all us grads.. except one ross grad... and just a great bunch of ppl... answered questions, taught us, joked round with us.. overall good group... and depending on ur abilities the residents will let you do more or less of the work.. they let me deliver the baby on many occasions as they coached and supervised through the process... the attending set aside one day per week for med student time with us and we had lectures specifically for us and a question answer time... we sat in on conferences with the residents and also on the teleconferences that they participated in... its broken up 3 weeks ob and 3 weeks gyn.. the nurses were the best in the hospital.. real fun bunch.. days started early.. rounds at 6.30-7am.. so obviously had to be there earlier to write notes examine pts... afternoon rounds were round 5 everyday once gyn clinic was done... so days can be long sometimes (if 12 hours is long?? what i think breaks or makes the experience is really the residents and their attitude.. and fortunately i was lucky to have a good group.. (miss ya oneeye) |
