Finally

Well, We did it!!! Graduation was a success. It was well worth all the work. I just have to say to everyone, keep at it. It will fly by, and you will soon be a doctor. If there is any way I can help any current or future students by answering any questions, feel free to ask.

Congratulations Dr. Flores!
I have read a lot of posts on this forum and there are a lot of male doctors on here but for some reason I have a feeling that there aren't many female doctors. Dr. Flores, can you please tell me how many of your original classmates are graduated with you? and how many females started and finished? Again, congratulations!

my class

Well, in my class, there were about 40 that started. I think when we finished on the island, only about 30 finished. The rest either failed out or transferred. Being from the Jan class, there were only 2 of us that made this match and graduated this past weekend. Me and one other student. 1 male and 1 female. The rest of my class is still in rotations and will walk the stage next year. Whenever you are done though, you get your diploma. You get is as soon as you are done with rotations. Then you walk at Worcester in May. You can get your diploma in May or if you finished in Oct , Nov, ... you get it then in the mail. That way you can send your copy to ECFMG so that you can get your certificate ASAP. As far as my class went, it was about 50% male and 50 % female. This was pretty much the case with every class. Anyways, hope this helps.

Thumbs up Loving It

Well, I have one month down, and let me say, I feel like MUA was right for me. MUA really prepared me, and I don't feel inferior to anyone here. If anything my clinical experience prepared me more than my fellow interns. Heck, I've even done more and seen more than some of my upper levels too. I feel confident when I am on call and I get a phone call about a pt that is crashing on the floor, or if I have to go to the ER and evaluate and admit a pt, or if I have to go and deliver a baby in the middle of the night by myself. And let me say, all of this has happened numerous times in this first month alone. The attendings here have a lot of confidence in me, and they are very helpful. I love my residency experience so far. MUA clinical spots really get you prepared. Houma alone was perfect for IM, OBGYN, and ER. Lots of pathology in Houma, and lots of freedom to help gain as much experience as you want. Take advantage of the clinical years especially, because once you are in residency, YOU ARE IT!! You have the final answer as to what to do in most situations. Most nurses and staff look to you to make the decisions. Learn as much as you can during your clinicals. Get hands on. Anyways, gotta go for now, but I'll keep you guys informed. Keep with it. By the time you know it, you will be in residency and on your way.

big john stud

congrats on the first month being over.
mine too was incredible. i am still a little overwhelmed, but staying real busy. i did 13 h&ps the other day. ive just had a antiphospholipid syndrome patient. i miss my old osteo patients from houma.
ive been doing real good. i actually met a rep the other day and she said she was going to vacation in nevis, she wanted to know if anyone heard of it.
i said i not only heard of it, i was the tallest man in the country for 2 years. congrats.

lol its gone down in history.. i bet they still tellin stories and talkin about the legend of the tallest man to ever set foot on nevis...

congrats to both of u on f inishin up the first month.. im still here at work on sunday.. last day of the month... talk about pushin the limit.. least ill be done with surgery for a few mths.. good ol peds starting tom....

antiphospholipid is pretty cool.. i had a patient with all sorts of coagulation derangements last week.. his INR >10.0 and PTT >140.0... i kid u not.. (seriously im not exaggerating)..was unreal.. that and the newly discovered carcinoid had to be the 2 cool ones i ran into this month..

so... i guess like 1st semester on the island... the waiting for all this to be over begins again... seems like we are gonna be in residency forever lol..
