Thread: Housing scam in Houma

Fred Vernon rents out his 4bd-house to medical students in Houma. I rented a room for >6months and was a good tenant by always paying rent on time and making sure all lights were off at night. I never had guests over and was mostly at the hospital or at a part-time job so never used much of electricity. His craigslist post never mentioned paying a deposit but I naively did once I moved in since other students did as well. I moved out in April and was told to expect the deposit back by the end of May. It is almost the end of June and I have yet to receive my money. He ignores my phone calls and emails. I'm not his first victim since he also withheld previous students' deposits as well. Anyway, make sure you don't deal with him...there are other places in Houma to rent from. If you need a place then ask Liz, the hospital coordinator, for a list of housing properties.

Unfortunately people are there who will take advantage. Sorry about that. They know it's not worth your legal fees to collect back. They also cut off their own foot. An Islander in Nevis illegaly kept one of my portable AC units ($1300) and witheld it from a friend who was going to sell it for me. It's like robery but he justified it by saying we used more power than he'd anticipated. Thats ** but what can you do.

Who is the owner on Nevis that did this? I will be there this September and would like to avoid him/her if I can

Bill Tyson and his wife. Also, the house is on the 2nd Road/driveway that goes right (toward the ocean) after you go through Cotton Ground and top the hill, just before the Premier's house. There is a cluster of trash cans at the turn.
