Im going to be starting rotations and wanted to know whats the best rotation to start with. Is it better to start with something that isnt as demanding to get use to clinical work?

520 points I think internal medicine is the best. However, if you get offered something else just start with that.
I wouldn't start in surgery, as most surgeons are more demandng than most other attendngs. If you want to get your feet wet with charting, rounds, presenting cases... maybe psych. would be a lighter start. Pediatrics tends to be a bit more laid back in teh same way. Ob/gyn usually has a large degree of personal choice as to how involved you want to be, so that was a good start for me, to learn charting/rounding/HandP.
510 points Like I had always heard.....
if ya knew what ya wanted to go into say OBGYN then you would try and do that rotation later on so you could shine and get a good letter of rec. If ya do it first you'd be such a newbie and not know, and thus you might not do as well.
Psych is one of the easier rotations, so some people like to do it last because it gives them time to study for CS, and CK.
I know I want peds so I'm doing that last. I wish I had asked for psych last. but I guess with peds hard to get it's easier to do last.
I agree. surgery is major rough to do first. i would do it at least second so I wouldn't come home crying all the time, lols.
but ya....i think doing the rotation you want to specialize in last is a good idea and that's what i'm doing. as for electives, lols....man, it's like too early to think of that and too late at the same time.
