510 points During my interviews, my grades from basic science as well as clinicals were definitely mentioned, luckily mines were ok. Of course they care about your board scores more, but clinical grades are important.
My opinion is the one that matters the most is the core which is most closely related to the field you are going into. Like for Psych, the Psych and Neurology should be A's if possible. I know Psych does not care if your ob/gyn or surg. grades are B's. But IM will more likely care about all your grades. But I agree with above poster, overall board scores, LOR's, and personal statement weigh more than clinical grades. Those can well overcome even a B in your main core, from what I am gathering so far. Hope that helps. Ask around more, it's a good question. Go check out SDN.
I'm applying in Psych only, nobody asked me about my grades in either clinicals, basics, boards. And only 1 of about 30 people asked about a research project I was in on. So it's all very specialty dependent.
