Thread: What was your first day like in clinical rotations

Can some of you give us an idea of what is the first days of clinicals like? How do you know where to go? How did you dress? How was your schedule? How did students from other places look at you?

Also, how did you find your housing? Did you have to stay at a hotel until you found an apartment?

1) The first day is usually orientation- getting your ID, touring the hospital etc...

2) Call the clinical coordinator at the hospital you will be doing your rotation at, he/she will tell you where to show up and when.

3) Shirt and slacks for guys (ties optional). Bring a labcoat.

4) Schedule varies by rotation.

5) Students from other schools look at you in disgust.

6) MUA gives you a list with housing to help you out. Good luck.

Yes, it is a big secret. No, they don't look at you in disgust.

How you are treated by other students from other schools is a huge, huge thing for many of us. Thank you for clarifying. I was already trying to think of ways one can avoid having to deal with situations where other students are looking down on you.

I would really appreciate it if more people share their first day experiences.

I heard that the Havard students spit on caribbean students and Yale students say "AAARRRR ME MATIE" everytime you ask them something because your from the caribbean, like were pirates or something.

Is that true?

But, on a personal note; If I cared about what everyone else thought of me
I wouldnt have left the house.

Go to the main page for "MUA Nevis Medical School Clinicals" the one where you can see the title of all the threads on Clinicals, then, go all the way to the bottom of that page and you will see a button that says "New Thread"

Wow, if you find yourself doing clinicals with Harvard and Yale students I don't think you have to worry about anyone looking down on you, you will be so insignificant that you will be the one saying "AAARRRR ME MATIE" look at me, I'm here look at me please!

Im not saying that Harvard and Yale students are smarter than us but we do have to acknowledge the fact that they will be about 250% better prepared than us.

I don't really care about the smart people, the ones I care about are the stupid and insecure who act by impulse and in the process end up making other people's life miserable.

You will most likely just be rotating with other kids from other carib med schools. At Wyckoff we are all just lumped together and everyone gets along great. In the end there is no difference, we are all from the Caribbean. My bestfriend goes to Harvard, he was actually pretty jealous when I told him that we got a lot of hands on experience (I think they let him suture twice)

Wear a tie on your first day; I heard someone got in a lot of trouble for not looking professional enough
