If any current or former students can comment about St. Anthony's Hospital that would be well appreciated!

How was the housing in OKC?
    Have you matched yet?
Did St. Anthonys accept pre-matches if you wanted to do residency there?
Is St. Anthonys affiliated with any other hospitals in the OKC area?
How far is the hospital to nearby grocery stores, restaraunts, bars, Ford Arena?

St. Anthony's is nice, very relaxed, has it's negative residents, like any place I suppose. It is not as busy and competetive as some places, but that's nice also. Maybe more self teaching here, but that's very relative. If you just try to listen to nurses and doc's talk, as they are changing shifts, you learn a lot, then follow that patient, and you learn more. You are not asked to or forced to be as involved here, so you have to involve yourself if you want to. There's pretty good didactics in most programs, and very good daily teaching by the IM attending. Many other good attendings. Overall, I'd reccomend it.

Either it's improved a lot since people reviewed on here in the past, or my experience is just different, but I've found there to be lot's of teaching if you just involve yourself. Also, if you want to keep a low profile, you can do that, but that doesn't come off so well and really makes yourself, MUA and carib. schools look bad, because the Osteopathic students are mostly pretty assertive.

Living conditions are very good, lots of places to rent within a mile or less of the hospital. Driving is very easy. Lot's of little resteraunts within walking of the hospital. a YMCA 2 minutes walk. A Starbucks attached to the hospital, nice to study in, with WiFi.

The main cluster of resteraunts and bars are about a mile south, down by teh Arena's etc, all in a big square mile or so. It's a very nice town overall with a lot of variety, and VERY friendly people.

Never heard of anyone pre-matching here. There are 3 residencies at St. Anthony's, Ob/Gyn, Family Med (Which I've heard is an excellent program), and Ortho Surgery. The Ortho and Ob are both primary Osteopathic programs, and the Family Med is medical.

If you are really interested, there's a fam med doc from Ross who I could ask if they often pre-match.

PM or post here and let me know.

    Cheers.

I think there are about 6-8 MUA students here, but I have not actually rotated with them. some of them are rotating together. I've mostly rotated with Osteopathic students from OSU (Kansas)??

Hours vary per rotation and preceptor. Overall, not often long days. Ob started at 5:30 during the ob part, and whenever sugery was during the gyn part (3 weeks of each). Some days were very short. Surgery has been good, few long days, average 6-8 hour day, some shorter days... but then there's always studying for step 2. So it is good, it gives you time for that. Have had very little call on surgery, actually some weekends going in and rounding for an hour or 2, just when our doc is on call. Not bad at all. Great learning.

I hear Peds' is not bad, psych is less, and IM is probably the longest hours, daily 6:30 until 4-5, and regular 1 weekend day each 2 weeks roughly.

Overall great learning as you go, not much didactics, but learning by observing, reading charts, asking questions.

OB attendings don't even know you, but have written letters. Other attendings seem involved, but I've only done surgery and OB. Hopefully some other students will reply. I've not heard anything negative abotu getting letters.

The director is difficult, but accessible and will get things done with enough prodding. I imagine it won't be an issue.

Hi. I am from Oklahoma City and am about to finish my med 5 semester on Nevis. I have heard that there are specific start dates for the Oklahoma City hospital, i.e. Aug. 1 or Sept 1 and Jan 1?

I was wondering if anyone knows the dates or has any idea around when the dates are?
