About residency
is it true that even if you do well on ur USMLE like over 200.. you might still have to wait to get your residency? One of my friend told me that. I am planning to go to MUA and my friend who is in ross told me that even if he scores lower than me on USMLE.. he will get his residency match choice before me. is that true? I just want this cleared up. I thought USMLE is one of the.. if not the most important factor for residency match. but my friend from ross is saying that what university you went to matters more than how you did on USMLE. please someone respond

If that was the case then no one in the Caribbean would get a residency because they are all offshore schools. So if it is the school that you are going to that matters than that makes no sense. From US medical students and doctors alike what I understand the process to be is that the USMLE is the equalizer meaning that you may even get a better residency than a US student if you scored better on Step I no matter what school you went to (Yale or MUA). I hope this helps. It is hilarious how some offshore students engage in this my carib school is better than yours. No matter what you are still and IMG grad no matter if you went to SGU, SMU, SABA or MUA.
