NY must verify medical education, pre-professional education, postgraduate training, valid license to practice medicine in another jurisdiction, etc.

 

If the applicant has a medical license issued by another state and have two years of professional experience, and have passed a licensing exam, he/she may qualify for licensure by endorsement.

Educational requirements: 60 semester hours of pre-professional undergraduate college study from a NY State registered program or its equivalent; Completion of an approved medical program (NY State licensure qualifying or LCME)

 

Graduates of non-accredited medical programs must provide minimum of 32 months (4 academic years) in an acceptable educational program for physicians and ECFMG.

 

Graduates of an accredited medical programs (or fifth pathway program) must complete 1 year of postgraduate training approved by ACGME

 

Graduates of non-accredited medical program must provide minimum of three years of postgraduate hospital training in an ACGME accredited program

 

All licensed physicians in NY must be United States Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents. This requirement may be waived for a three year limited physician license to practice in a medically underserved area.

Foreign applicants must provide the board with written proof of their ability to work in the US by the INS.
