Thanks for the reply Savior. Is transfer possible into their 3rd year (of the 4-year program)? Do they offer core rotations in the US or Poland? I think they only offer electives in the US whilst core are done in Poland.

Thanks again,

ULTRON

I would think it would be difficult to transfer to the last year, but you should contact them personally and im not a american student myself so I dont know about the possibility of doing electives there. Anyways, those questions are essential and you shouldnt take my word for it and contact them yourself.

Hi
My name is Yasmine, I'm from Saudi Arabia. I am most probably going to be in Poland within approximately a month or so to study in the Medical University of Warsaw. I've been granted a scholarship by my country but they still haven't informed me of anything yet and I'm a little nervous as I don't know what to expect. I would really appreciate it if I could talk to someone with experience in living in Warsaw and advice of where it's best to rent a room, the weather, the people etc. I need to gather as much information as I can to make plans and try to imagine what it would be like so that I wouldn't be as anxious.

And um, is it okay to speak to eachother here on a personal level, like atleast using our real names and being less formal and not all about professional questions and such? I'd like to get to know some of you more, like Savior, matimd, neuro and others. Or is there a special place for students to get to know eachother?

Thanks!

Congratulations on your scholarship!

I’ll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

Weather:
The weather in Warsaw is very continental, expect cold winters with lots of snow and humid summers. It’s a big city where u can find everything you need.

Accommodation:
You can choose to live at the dorms, its cheap and a good way to get to know people. The downfall is that is noisy and most probably you have to share room with another person. I wouldn’t recommend it but most 1st year students live at the dorms at first.

You can also go through a housing agency, the larger ones, such as Emmerson or Ober-haus, (www.emmerson.pl)/(www.ober-haus.pl), has staff that speaks English, although these firms will help you find a place quickly they will charge a fee that can be equal to the rent of the first month.

I also know that there is a guy who specializes in helping foreign students finding apartments, I imagine he is cheaper, but probably need a much longer time to help you find a place if you are picky. I don’t have is number, but maybe one of the other members on this can help you out with that.

Try to get a place close to the Centrum, at least that’s what I did, then you are relatively close to everything and have a good access to public transit.

Expect:
To study lots of Anatomy and Histology, you will also have Polish language, Latin, Man & Environment, Medical informatics, Medical Chemistry and a weekly gym-class.

Also check out these two sites for some general info/ tourist info Warsaw Life | Warsaw Travel Guide | Restaurants Pubs Shops and Warsaw Apartments | Poland and Warsaw**Poland - In Your Pocket

Hope this clears things up for you, if u have any other questions just ask me here or pm, I’ll be around until about 1week or so before I go back to Poland.

Little question about Warsaw apartment location

Ok, just in case someone at UW is in the mood to weigh in about apartment locales...

I'd say I'm experienced with Polish culture but have never lived in Warsaw and do not know the city at all. Of course there are many factors involved in the decision, but if you were picking an apartment purely on location would you favor one right off of Plac Teatralny or one basically at the intersection of Aleja Jana Pawla II and Krochmalna?

I'll just commit to the place through December, but it is odd to pick a place without seeing it and getting a feel for the neighborhood, yet I want to have one all lined up.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

Hi Olga,

I would go with the one right of Plac Teatralny, its a very nice location with lots of small parks. The one close to Jana Pawla II probably has good access to public transit but I dont like that street.

here you can see a pic from Plac Teatralny street, so u get a feel on how the neighborhood is

Question WUM and HMI

Is the University of Warsaw still affiliated with the Hope Medical Institute? HMI's website says they are, but it appears from the school's website that you can apply directly. Also, I saw an old post stating that the EU limits US clinicals to 6 weeks. Is this true? HMI currently claims that you can do up to 2yrs of US clinicals (are they being shady?). What is Warsaw's policy?

KB,

Send me a pm with the relevant info and I will promise not to reveal any identifying information regarding that person (apart from country of medical school) here or elsewhere. If you provide the proof, I will acknowledge it here without compromising that person's identity.

Otherwise, I remain skeptical.
