    about Lublin

First I need to ask- what is your goal?

If your goal is to get MD degree and come back to US for residency- it doesn't really matter which polish medical school you graduate. I am not sure about your case (High School in US and how they translate it for polish system- we had to take "mature exam" at the end of our High School in Poland)- get info about this and about "enterance exams" to medical school. I assume that you are not polish citizen and have to pay for medical school in the same way as for 4-year program.

If your goal is to stay in Poland - it doesn't really matter which medical school you graduate also. The only thing which is important after that for your employer is your degree and CONNECTIONS.

Lublin is one of the worst medical schools in Poland -polish students go there only because they are scared about higher cutoff in "enterance exam" in other schools. The city is terrible, very very small. The plus- life is cheeper then in big metro like Cracow, Warsaw...
If you want to have pretty light study in small- town environment- go ahead. But you will not get good medical knowledge in this country and for sure not in Lublin.

Hey, so I'm planning on going there, but I'm shocked to find out that some people are saying these things about Lublin. Can you tell me in detail what's wrong: with the city, the school itself, etc? Because I want to go there to study, but not be associated with a crappy med school with this sort of a reputation. Thanks in advance!

MUL isn't terrible as me777 makes it sound. Nor is it the worst medical school.

First of, if you can get into any U.S. Med school then by all mean join a U.S. Med School. There is no reason to join a International school in this scenario. The reason most of the students go to an International location is due to the fact that they can't get into a U.S. Med School. Also, there are hundreds of schools outside of U.S., and every school has it's Up's & Down's. If you talk to any student from any International Med School, you'll hear complaints.

Secondly, if you are willing to put in an effort, study on time, and not goof around like most students do in Lublin, then Lublin will work for you. You can't expect anyone to spoon feed you with your own studies. Most of the students who land in Lublin, get deviated by other stuffs such as traveling, going out, hanging out with friends etc.., n not study. These students on a later basis say that Lublin isn't a good university. On the same token, like eight to ten years ago, it was different. But, now the classes and the teachers have become a lot better. But, I'll stress one thing. You HAVE to study. Yeah, the classes will never be taught the same way as it is in the U.S.. But, you should expect that. The teachers are willing to help any student with any questions. They have their own formats of teaching and you have to get acquainted and this true with every International school. So, you can't compare an International Med School with a U.S. Med School. Lublin has been changing formats that is closer to U.S. formats and is striving hard to change as time passes too. But, don't expect the SAME when you decide to go there.

If you are a student who needs a lot of supervision, who needs to stay away from distractions etc., then, pls don't go to Lublin or any other International school. If you're willing to put in the effort to study and you have the drive to become a doctor, then do go. You'll get thru fine. Even students in U.S. Med Schools study a lot. So, you'll have to do the same there. Lot of students think by getting admitted to an International Med school they are really smart and don't have to study. That's not true. If you're going to any International Med School, then most probably you didn't or couldn't get in to a U.S. Med School. So, pls accept that fact and study harder when you get there. Once you put your time to study, then every thing else will be fine.

If you're getting our of high school, and you're unsure, then go to an undergraduate school in the U.S. Take Pre-Med classes, see how you feel, how you're grading etc. If you're doing great, with a great GPA, then stay back and join a U.S. Med School. If you're in a rush and you wanna finish Med School soon, then you should think about going outside the U.S. So, take your time to decide what you wanna do. Honestly speaking, I don't think anyone should rush into Med School.

Lublin is a very small college town. There is a law school, Med School, Dental School, Nursing School etc.. It's packed with a lot of students too. So, it's not like bigger cities as Warsaw. On the same token, you get everything there and is very comfortable living too. If you can't study in a small city as Lublin, then you can't study in bigger cities with more distractions. So, think about yourself and your endurance to study. How much are you devoted towards studying and how much is your drive to get a MD degree. You, and only you, know your strengths and weaknesses. So, if you were goofing off, in high school or college in the U.S., and don't have good grades, then I wouldn't go to any International school. But, if you're willing to change your life style and put in the effort to study harder, then you'll be fine.

No one said Med School is easy, let that be Med School anywhere in the World. So, don't go to any Med School with high expectations and little effort on your part.

Wow thanks, this is a really detailed response. I never once doubted Med school would be easy, I know it will take a LOT of perseverance. Thanks for your reply, I truly appreciate it. Also, I heard that transferring Med schools is possible, do you know what the process is like? The steps, how tedious it is? Thanks again!

I'm really not sure of the process of transferring Med schools. I guess you'll have to find out that info from the Med school itself, to be accurate. I know it's not an easy process, at least from what I've heard. So, Good Luck with everything. Hope this helps..

    CanadianKryptonian,

I go to Jag in Krakow, and know very little about Lublin, so I wont be of much help. I will however say that if your goal is to stay in Europe, go ahead and study at Lublin. If your goal is to work in US or Canada, you need to rethink this whole thing. That's not an insult to Lublin or anything, that is simply what being an IMG after 2015 means.

Lol I'm sorry, is something happening after 2015? And yea, I understand studying in Europe (or being any IMG) can be difficult to acquire a position in North America. Also, since you're from Krakow, can you please let me know what the transfer process is like? Thanks

If you serious about transferring to a different school, you need to call that school and speak to them about it. Why would u accept second hand info on the internet?
