Thread: Greenbook Rotations

Hey Everyone

I want to know more about the clinical situation with HMI. I tried to search but did not find much about the availability of greenbook rotations. I know most HMI students rotate through Wyckoff Heights, but I know that all the cores are not greenbook there. After looking at the HMI website it does not look like they have many other hospital affiliations. Can students rotate through the different available hospitals offered to get all greenbook cores or are students forced to do blue rotations? I'm only asking because I plan on practicing in TX and they have strict rules for licensure.....i.e.(no green through umbrella or blue rotations).

Thanks DrHokie, I read that thread, does not seem like there is a greenbook surgery rotation. Is there one available to you guys or do you guys just do the blue surgery rotation at Wyckoff?

Oops I forgot to read the very bottom of your original post in the compilation thread where you addressed surgery rotation. My bad, that clears everything up. Would love to hear how clinicals are going for you and what you think of the quality of the teaching, that is when you have some time DrHokie. I imagine the schedule of a third year leaves little time to post on VMD.

Nearly everyone i know, including myself, completes their surgery rotation at wyckoff. From my personal experience, the rotation was on par with acgme approved rotations. Infact, during the surgery rotation, you rotate with some of the nycom students.

I can completely understand the confusion regarding licensing questions/issues. The rules are incredibly convoluted and fractured from state to state. In my case, I am keeping the number of blue core rotations to a minimum (in my case- only surgery), and I am open to moving around a bit it need arises. Having said that, I have had back to back core rotations at WHMC for the last year with all green rotations so far (except surgery). I completed psych at St. Johns- which is about 30 min away by subway from wyckoff. I did not have to move from my apartment to do psych- it is close enough to commute from WHMC.

In my opinion, the perfect order for 3rd year MUL rotation schedule is listed below:

1) Family Medicine @ Adventist Hospital Systems (outside of Chicago) -
2) OBGYN @ WHMC
3) PEDS@WHMC
4) IM @WHMC (weakest of the rotations on this list)
5) Surgery @ WHMC
6) Psychiatry @ St.John's Far Rockaway, NYC

Dr.Hokie- Appreciate the info on clinicals......I was just curious.....Im just a prospective student right now. I'm applying to the 'Big 4' and Lublin in December. Just wanted to get some info on the school. I recently spoke with a Lublin alum who was an attending Anesthesiologist. He had good things to say about the school and Poland overall. Basically he told me exactly what you wrote in the compilation thread about being serious in basic sciences and not being tempted by cheating and partying all the time. I guess you can say that about any school though. Thanks again Hokie and good luck on the upcoming residency match
