Congratulations on your acceptance. I have completed a semester here and I know the questions you must have. Feel free to ask away. I will answer you honestly. What did they present to you as your housing options? My initial advice is to really be patient. Those of us who have already been here for a bit will help in any way possible. We were all very frustrated and confused at first and will do what we can to alleviate some of that for you. Again, congrats!!! you are on your way to becoming M.D.s

ps-Pachaas-immediately upon arrival see about getting exempt from Biochemistry, assuming you have completed higher level coursework. It will free up your schedule quite a bit.

Thank you so much doctobe20! I was wondering if older students were willing to share study tips with the first semester students? Or do the teachers usually give a good idea of what to expect in tests? I'm doing some prep work for the upcoming semester and I was wondering which courses I should be focusing on more? In terms of housing - I just got my acceptance call yesterday, so I'm still flailing around in happiness. XD I was thinking I would use the dorms for the first semester/year until I get a bit more familiar with the area - is dorm life okay?

Also - I'm a huge food person - how is the produce at nearby grocieries? Is there a good variety of veg & fruits? Also - are there any hindu temples? I looked on Hello Lublin and they only mentioned a buddhist temple. It's not a huge deal - just curious.

Thank you so much once again!

Older students are willing to share-just ask. As far as study tips go, the teachers give you very little idea as to what will be on tests. They do have powerpoints which they will give ONE copy to the class rep to scan and email to the class. The ppts are often very difficult to understand. If you supplement what they give you with some good textbooks (BRS is great for this) as well as info you will get from students that have been through the courses, you will be fine. Critical to roll with the punches the first few weeks and try not to get frustrated. As far as doing prep over this summer,it can't hurt. If you have taken sciences in undergrad (a little basic anatomy, biochem, etc.) you will be fine. Enjoy yourself.

Dorm life is dorm life. There's a large % that leave the dorms as soon as possible. Inquire about the TBV building. It is technically private, same price as school dorms, better accommodations, and is 5 minutes from 3 of the buildings you have classes in.

When I came here I was expecting great produce year round from Greece and Turkey. During the "off months" the produce is awful. However, now that we are in season, the outdoor markets are open and you can get great fruits and vegetables at great prices.
I have no idea about the Hindu temples but I can tell you that there is a church on every corner :0)
Again, congrats! celebrate and enjoy your summer.

doctobe20 - Perfect - I'll get to ordering the BRS books as soon as I'm back home (on a trip for now) I'm expecting the adjustment period to not be as smooth as I'd like - but hey! I'm going to give it all I can!

Thanks for the info about the TBV building - I sent a message to someone who I think deals with the apartments. And, as long as there's a place for me to pray for a little bit of extra luck then it's all good! Haha.

    Thank you once again!

sai28baba - Looks like we'll be classmates! I look forward to meeting you!

TBV has a website. Just google it. I don't know what the "official" dorm situation will be for you (it is being changed around now). There are other Hindu students here and I think that they should be able to answer you. They might even have something organized.
NB-regarding textbooks-don't bring too many over. I made that mistake and in addition to weighing a ton, it cost $$$$ in weight and baggage overcharges. You can order most books here or get them from others in pdf format (not that I condone or condemn that, just saying it happens, or so I hear. lol :0)

What's up guys!! Good to see some new heads pop up here. I was worried I was the only person in the fall class lolAnyways from what I've heard from other students I do have a few questions: 1) how do I opt out or get exempted out from courses I have already taken? I have extensive biochem coursework with good grades...do i just bring the official transcripts and a course catalog or something?? I know first semester there are other classes such as first aid, medical ethics and other ones that I have taken already in undergrad, which I'm hoping to also get exempted out of as well. Any advice on this would be appreciated. 2) MAJOR QUESTION - is there a decent gym within running distance of the school? I am a gym rat and need to work out to maintain my focus and sanity lol. By gym I mean a fitness center similar to 24 hour / ballys / la fitness anything along those lines. preferably a place with dumbbells up to 100lbs lol 3) should I wait until I get to Lublin to figure out my housing? I have had older classmates tell me to check out Prusa and not look into the Chodzski apts because of extra costs etc associated with the complex...what do I need to know and who regarding housing...the full rundown as to the best place to stay based on amount of classmates staying together and proximity to campus. 4) with regards to class studying - should we rely MOST on our own study materials IE BRS and First Aid? Is there some place to find/study and practice with questions that are similar to those on exams? Where are students getting the basic understanding of core concepts? Is paying attention in lecture important or can most information be gathered from text and prep books? 5) how's the food? I'm not picky at all, and I eat meat - anything youreccomend we bring from home?
