Thread: university help!

Hey guys, I’m in grade 12 and I go to a high school in Toronto. Basically, I need your help! So here’s my issue: I'm not sure if I should continue with my education in Toronto or go to Lublin for the pre-med & med program. Basically getting into university in Ontario isn't an issue but medical school is. It’s extremely hard & you need about a minimum of 90 % to get in. So my family & relatives are thinking about sending me to Lublin & I’m not too sure if that’s a great idea. So please help me out. For those of you who are in the 6 yr program could you tell me how the experience is, academically and socially and how the living conditions are? Thankss alot!

It is better to stay in Canada if you want to practice medicine in Canada. Once you leave it's difficult to come back.

yea i knoww, and thats my main concern. But everyone keeps telling me that i'll be able to come back & i have a feeling that it's not going to be so easy.

It is hard to give advice without knowing what made them want you to go to Lublin. Is it for financial reasons, or to save you some years of university?
I am a Canadian who went to school in Quebec and moved to the US for medical school. Leaving so early for lublin can limit you for residency coming back, especially if you want to have a choice over where you do your residency. One idea might be to try a year of university, and if you are doing well stay with it, but if you do poorly you can always go to Lublin after your first year, or go to another 6 year program.

yea i figured, i'm extremely confused! This is the way everyone looks at it, if i dont come back to canada, i'm still a doctor in that states and poland. But if i stay in canada i might not even become a doctor. So this is my issue :S

its mostly to save some yrs and the fact that i'll become a doctor, where as if i stay in toronto i may not even become one bc of the competition. Also, how would i be limited residencies?

Are they indian parents? Do you actually want to become a doctor? It looks like they are looking for a quick and lazy way to make you one and it's going to be a tough journey if it's not something you are interested in.

haha yes their indian andd i do want to become a doctor, so i'm willing to put the effort into it. I just don't know where i should go, but i do know that i would like to be able to practice in Canada.
