Thread: MUL Frustrations: Please put your Valid concerns & suggestions for Administration

This is not a disgruntled rant but rather an open letter to Medical University of Lublin on behalf of the current students.

There are a few things that are really frustrating the current students and because of a lack of proper channels, they have to be voiced here.

As everyone knows, this thread is followed by HMI and MUL. So, I hope it is taken as a source for change.

Lately, two main issues have become really concerning for the current students.

1) Financial Aid
2) Dean's office's new requirements for student contact

1)Financial Aid: The current students are having a really tough time since the loans have not yet been dispersed and the semester is almost half-way! Every inquiry made has been responded with the answer "The money will be available soon"
As students who are financing medical education with loans, this puts a real burden on being able to make it through the semester. To make matters worse, there is ongoing uncertainty that arises from the lack of information about what "soon" actually is supposed to mean. No dates have been provided and seems like no one has the answer.
Suggested Solution: Posting relevant and detailed information including dates on the school website so that information is not dispersed via 'osmosis' and everyone has a reliable source for such critical information.

2) Appointment system to visit the Dean's Office: Although the objective of this new email appointment system was probably to streamline the process and be more efficient, seems like the objective has not been achieved. Students are frustrated because often times emails are not answered on time as promised, or sometimes there are urgent issues for which students need to see the administration. Unfortunately, the growing opinion amongst students is that this is one more roadblock for student-administration contact.
Suggested solution: Have a number based system to reduce overcrowding. Every person coming in can be given a number and will have to wait their turn and enter the office one at a time.

Once again, this post was started after listening to several students' frustrations, opinions and suggestions. Hopefully this will be taken in a positive manner to bring about changes.

I totally agree man, were not getting any answers although i talked to some people that did receive there loan checks, but they are in the second semester of the bis program, and it was only a stafford check not plus. Basically i dont know what is going on so i think the best bet is to call FAFSA itself and ask them.

Still nothing im gonna have to start eating paper.

If you signed up for plus loans more than 3 months ago it expired so you have to do it again including the mpn. I just called the DOE and confirmed it.

Did Lublin retain it's federal funding status? Any updates?

For me it these issues extend far and I mean far beyond just financial aid...We have a serious problem with USMLE Step 1 pass rates and I am yet to see any legitimate information on these USMLE Step scores for MUL (If someone can provide current stats I would appreciate it). What we have to understand is that financial aid to not only incoming students but possibly current students depends on USMLE Step 1 first time pass rate scores. If the scores are not to at least 75% first time pass then the school loses funding from the US government.

We really need to do more in terms of class structure and emphasis on how material is taught i.e. geared towards USMLE Step 1 prep..

We are basically learning a bunch of unnecessary information that will NOT help us on our step. Being a current student I understand the time constraint that we are under and it is very critical to make sure that time is maximized towards Step prep.

Therefore, AGAIN....federal funding depends on our (but really more so the past) students USMLE step scores. I bust my *** here at Lublin to learn impertinent information and its tiring because in reality once the Step comes around we are expected to learn 2yrs worth of information that we should have learned over the course of 3 months...(if you want to do your clinical rotations in the states), information that we should have been learning during our basic sciences.

I believe that we as American students need to wake up and not be so complacent about our issues because we are after all spending our money for an education that is suppose to prepare us for the States. I have not received my GradPlus loans as of yet and I am ready to protest our issues!!!!!!

About the poor response record of emails from the dean's office, maybe everyone should send a copy to HMI. CC: the email to HMI and hopefully they will put the pressure on the Dean's office to be more proactive in their response.

Lately, everyone has been saying how their emails are almost never answered....or if they are then they are answered waaaaay too late.

Does anyone want to set up a student meeting with the school officials/ Dean's office staff to voice these issues?

As far as loans, with less than a month left in the semester, there is still no concrete update or response from either the school or HMI.

Hi,

Please go to studentloans.gov, login and check to see if you have completed applications, MPN's and Entrance Counselling on record. Once you log in, the left side of the page has the option to check completed MPN, Entrance Counselling and to Sign MPN. Re-sign the MPN for both Direct and DirectPLUS loans depending on which one you are applying for.

Hopefully this will speed up the process and assure a speedy release of funds.

Last year loans were offered through private lender Sallie Mae but have now been taken over by the department of education which has presented guidelines and qualifications to secure student loans. That is why the university must maintain a first time pass rate of 75% or greater. I have been searching and searching for where to find our pass rate USMLE scores but can not find them any where and the Dean's office isn't that forth coming. If you know where I could find this information I would appreciate it.

As of now they are pushing a lot of USMLE Step 1 prep courses which is pretty much a flag.
