Thread: Going from Medicine in Gdansk to Dentistry in Lublin

Since I can't find any information on the website regarding these matters, I hope anyone could help me out...

Question 1:

I studied medicine (M.D. program) in the Medical University of Gdansk before. I completed the first year (and partially the 2nd year) which include courses such as:

- Gross Anatomy
- Histology
- Cell Biology
- Embryology
- Chemistry
- Immunology
- Parasitology
- Polish, Basic (1st year) and Medical (2nd year)
- Latin
- and more...

Since I am moving to Lublin in two weeks I wonder if it possible to be exempted from these courses even if I am starting the DDS (Dentistry) program? I am guessing that the first two-three years comprise the same courses as in the M.D program. And since I studied in another Polish university, it would be "easier" to be exempted, right?

Question 2:

How is the campus overall? In Gdansk, the dorms were located just 3-5 minutes from the main university building. How is it in Lublin?

Question 3:

How are the dorms? Are the rooms in good condition and does the corridor include a kitchen, laundry etc?


I hope you guys could help me with these matters. I tried emailing the Dean's office, but they seem to reply whenever they feel like. Sometimes I receive a reply, sometimes I don't. :S

I'm in the 4yr MD myself, so I can't tell you too many specifics as to what the courses look like vs ours, etc. Usually the dean's office is not too pushy as to giving you course exemptions, so I figure they'd be okay with you skipping them (since you did them in MD vs the majority omiting ones for UG credit).
The dorms are apartments, so there's an in-suite bathroom, washing machine and kitchen(ette). Since they're apts the rooms usually vary significantly as to size, shape but from what I understand the rent changes based on room size. From others I have heard that getting apts yourself will cost you less in the long run however, just FYI.

Thank you for the reply, Elssha. I'm glad to hear that the Dean's office might not be too pushy about the already-done courses.

Regarding the dorms, can you find any "single-person rooms" as well? And are there (as we said in Gdansk) pani's downstairs who take care of bed sheets, corridor cleaning etc.?

Btw, the curriculum you sent is only showing the first two years. What about the remaining three? :S Overall, the website seems to lack a lot of informations. Just look at these pages:

I know it's off topic, but can you tell me about the Gdansk medical program and why you left? I'm considering it as an option, and would like to here about it from someone that's been there.

yeah... the website is bad like that... and the things they do post they assume everyone will see (though personally i don't check it just because there's usually nothing TO check). as for the curriculum, IDK. Some of ours are not updated (still have 09/10 stuff) but to not have the upper years... IDK, like i said, I'm in the MD prog and only kinda knew where on the site there was something mentioned about dentistry. You'd have to check with the dean's office (under contact us).
As for the dorms, I didn't stay in them myself, but no, no ladies to clean up after you. Think literally living in an apt with others. You pay sep utilities as well. I know there are diff room counts, so i think there might be individual studios, but again, not sure.

So no microwave ovens, kettles (water boilers) or washing machines are available? That's too bad...

there are washing machines...
as for microwaves, kettles, etc... you buy those if you want them, along with bedsheets, cookware, and so on. The rooms come with a desk, bed, closet, fridge and washing machine, and all the built in stuff you expect in the kitchen and bathroom (though no dishwasher and I think the bathrooms only have a shower, no tub)... otherwise you gotta fill them yourself as far as appliances and electronics go ^_~

Okay, that sucks.
What about malls, convenience stores, supermarkets such as Lidl, Biedronka, Carrefour. Are they nearby?

the biggest one, Real, is up a hill... maybe 2 bus stops away (most ppl just walk it or take a cab back if they're buying a lot). There are some little indi stores around... there's really no prob with buying food n' such. most inconvenient would probably be media mart... but yeah. There are two main malls, one located walking distance, the newer one (plaza) located a bit further (closer to the dean's office). Busses take you ANYWHERE, s'long as you know what lines to take.
