Lublin vs JAG - Residency Placement

    Advertisements

    Hello Everyone,

I am considering applying to both Lublin and JAG for Fall 2010 admission and I have scorched the forums trying to figure out this answer but have not been able to figure this out.

I would really appreciate if current students/graduates from JAG/Lublin could kindly talk about the residency placement of the graduates. I understand JAG n Lublin both have a good reputation in medical studies but JAG does not have official clinical rotations available in the United States like Lublin. Please correct me if I am wrong. A sample of the residencies would help give me a clear idea and also the clinical rotations spots available for students at both these institutions. Does Lublin and JAG have their own hospitals or have affiliated hospitals and in that case, how many affiliations ?

Also, does not doing clinical rotations in United States put you at an obvious disadvantage in obtaining competitive residency placements ? Is it possible to do all your clinical rotations in the US if you are a student at JAG considering there is no support system like Lublin has in HOPE Medical Institute (HMI) ?

Which school definitely has a clear advantage overall for US citizens and why?
And finally, considering both these schools have an English Medical program division, which program has a better reputation in USA ? A thoughtful and clear response would be highly appreciated.

    Thank You

Can somebody please help me out regarding these questions about Lublin please ?

Does Lublin offer shelf exams in their English speaking medical program to get their North American students adequately prepared for the USMLEs ?

Please let me know. Your help in helping me make this critical decision would be highly appreciated ! Thank You !

Wait, by NBME do you mean the shelf exams or USMLEs coz both are administered by NBME ! And if u mean the shelf exams, than will the shelf exams be offered in every course or only selective ones ? Please explain.

Residency placements depend on your scores and your clinical rotation experience. Id say Lublin because you can do your clinicals in the states or in Lublin if you decide to. But i did hear that doing rotations in the states looks alot better than doing it elsewhere outside the country.

As I'm a first year, we weren't given all intel... just that there will be an NBME exam we must pass at the end of our second year. It's supposed to be a comprehensive exam (covering the first two years) like the USMLE. One of the older students told me it's where the writers test new Qestions before using them ON the USMLE... but everyone here seems perfectly willing to just refer to it as the NBME exam. Sorry I can't be more helpful. It's not at the end of a course though, but covers all of them. That much I know.

As a european rule you have up to two retakes on every subject except Anat and physio, they only have that option for finals.

each class is different. Micro, for instance, only lets you get a 3 (C) on retakes as a max grade. Biochem averages all the scores (retakes + failed attempts) to calculate your final score (need 3 to take final). Anatomy has no retakes but you need 50 or 55% to take the final; your grade is eventually just based on your final grade, not the partials/quizzes. Histology even attendance counts as part of your grade, so on and so forth.
