Lightbulb And now for the questions that no one ever asks

    Hello Past/Current MUL Students,

I know that many of the questions that you guys have received thus far generally ask about admissions and what books to buy etc.... but I've got some concerns that are quite diifferent...

Its obviously very scary to leave what we know to go study in a foreign area, but to better understand Lublin (as compared to New York) I was wondering if you guys could help me answer these questions:

1.) What is the quality of the water in Lublin- Is it drinkable straight from the tap, or should I buy a filter? or should I just get bottled water over there?

2.) I know that much of the towns diversity comes from the student population, but do they have restaurants/food that cater to us? For example, would I be able to find indian spices or soy sauce in the grocery store??...or do they have indian and/or chinese and/or other ethnic restaurants?

3.) Health Care- This is a majorrrr issue.... If a student falls sick, who do we go see? how much does a visit to the doctor cost? am I better off just bringing a whole suitcase of tylenol, sudafed and the works? should I bring my health insurance card?

4.) How much does it cost to buy bedding items, winter jackets, winter shoes, pots/pans, and other little "everyday" things?

5.) If I chose to live in the dorm, do they offer meal plans, and if they do- how much are these plans, and IS the food worth it?

6.) Is anyone willing to put up pictures of the dorms at lublin- or at least the dorm that you live in? Id like to see what Prusa looks like...

7.) This is probably the most important question- Is there a general sense of unity among the English program students? Obviously every school has its share of the good and bad but it would suck to be apart of a program if everyone was negative and unwilling to help a peer out...

Sorry for the long set of questions guys- but hopefully we can get some informative answers that help people understand what it means to live in Lublin!!

    Thankss!!

Not to discourage you from attending, we all got along REALLY well.. but I just want to make sure that you feel comfortable.

The school is just as "unstable" as some of the Caribbean schools are. Did you know that St Matthews doesn't even have loans? And they can't practice in California, Texas, Boston Massachusetts , and who knows what other states. Lublin is accredited in all 50 states (Silesia, the other campus is not).

My particular class fared very well. I scored in the high 90s (including a 99 on the step2) and so did several of my other classmates. Then again, there are also classmates who haven't attempted the steps or are left behind . Depending on how much work you put in... you can decide which batch you'll end up in. And don't take that lightly, b/c I'm sure everyone thinks they're going to be in the batch that does great. I tell everyone that I know to make a legit effort when you're studying for the exams
My friend has just applied to the 4 year American program at Lublin and would like to get some info about the grading policy such as the passing score, the number of retakes allowed, etc. Besides, she is also interested to know how many intakes usually for the fall and the spring semester. How many courses a day? At what time does school start and end for first semester students. Is it very cold in Poland? What is the maximum scholarship students able to get? Are the professors friendly and willing to help students pass the exam?

Please provide as much info as possible.

passing is USUALLY 60% and you USUALLY get 2 retakes.
Having said that the classes are more or less self-checked with their own rules. They tell you at the beginning of the semester.
For instance, in micro you need all you quizzes past to take a partial, all partials passed to take the final and your score is based on the final with retakes for all.
Anatomy there are no retakes UNTIL the final, you need 60% of the points from the partials/quizzes to TAKE the final, otherwise you only get retakes (max=3 aka C) or aren't allowed to take it at all.
Other classes the score is based on final AND partial scores, etc.
For schedules I'd simply look at the current sem schedule for the year she'd be entering to get an idea (same with dates, etc) looking only at one group. Each group is usually 10ppl, so that gives you an estimate of how many are in the program as well (that varies from year to year though).
    Poland = cold >_> right now it's between -10 and -20 C (14- -4F)

    Elssha,

Thanks for all the helpful info. My friend also wants to know if there is any scholarship available and if so, how much will that be.

The weather is really cold compared to the States. Will it be better in February? There is not any school map from the school's website. How big is the actual campus? How far is one building from another and will it be too cold traveling from building to building? With regard to the dorm, are they close to the building? Do they have single dorm or you have to share rooms with other students?

Besides the Anatomy and physiology building, are there more pictures that we can see about the school? And can you post the link for the timetable and calendar for the spring semester?

The website i posted is for schedules... they post new ones as they're made.
IDK about scholarships, doubt it though >_>
In feb it should be ~ the same... just buy warm clothes (especially shoes and some overcoats) in the states... IDK why but the stuff here is half as warm as the stuff mom got me in burlington's.
The campus has 2 (3 if you count the dean's office) groupings of buildings (not like west coast campuses, where the school is a city within a city)... the majority is right where the dorms / apts are, the rest are a bust stop or two away. We walked it most of 1st year and even in the snow it's not that bad. The dorms are individual rooms, for the most part (I think a couple are studios 2ppl usually share, but the rule of thumb is that everyone gets a room), priced on how big the room is (the ones i saw were converted apt buildings, so everyone gets a room, a few share a kitchen, bathroom, washing machine and living/dining niche). Some new ones opened this fall, and from what i hear they're good. There IS a map on the school website (sry, too lazy atm to search for it again since it's not bookmarked like the timetables page), though i remember thinking the travel between the buildings would be far worse when I looked at that than it actually turned out to be. First year the only buildings you need to worry about are anatomicum, universum (both right near the dorms), novum (dean's office) and medicum... and the library that's kinda hidden when you don't know where you're going, but that's only for sociology which you should exempt out of if at ALL possible >_>
